I HAVE A 2012 F150 CREWCAB LARIAT WITH TOW PACKAGE BUT NO CONTROLLER, CAN I USE A CURT CONTROLLER AND TRUCK WIRE HARNESS UNDER DASH WITHOUT NEEDING IT UNLOCKED AT FORD. All the controller have same wires (4) to make it work..

There is no unlocking required to use inferior aftermarket controllers.

I'm right here, no shouting required

Yes you can simply use an aftermarket brake controller with correct pigtail wire harness. Below is a basic video, a tekonsha controller, same idea.

I would use a OEM TBC and turn it on via ForSCAN.

I just put a Tekonsha in my 2018 XL that didn't come with a factory one. I had an old Tekonsha in my previous Ram and never had problems with it in the 19 years I had the truck.

Use the factory OEM trailer brake controller. Yes you will have to have it flashed, but it fits neatly in the dash and it’s worth it in terms of functionality.

I have an aftermarket one. It works fine and I’ve towed our airstream from Vermont to Florida and back last fall. I have to constantly go way up and down on the gain. Not sure if the oem would be the same.

Around town, gain at about 14-18 and highway driving I’m at about 36-42. If you don’t lower it after getting off the highway, the trailer gets way too much braking and jerks the truck.

That doesn't seem right. I had a burb, Tekonsha Prodigy TBC, worked fine, never had to mess with it
My F150, integrated, (that I love), but still, never have to mess with it

So you don’t have to raise or lower the gain? When going 70 vs stop and go traffic going 15? What are you towing? I called the company and they had said it was normal operation in the past.

If you have the gain up too high, it practically locks up the trailer brakes at low speed. Lowering the gain, the brakes work well. I spoke with another airstream owner that reported similar.

Maybe the oem is just THAT much better.
