Default EB tuned or 5.0 TVS better to tow 24' enclosed car hauler

If you had to choose between a tuned EB or a TVS powered 5.0 would it make a difference while towing? I read the 5.0 is a little short on low end torque but that wouldn't be a problem with the blower. Basically I'd have the same money in both these setups as I'm looking at slightly used fully loaded FX4's but the 5.0 is a few grand cheaper. +\-'s of both setups?

+Turbo's are not a parasitic loss
-Turbos will always have some length of lag, but dependant on positioning of turbos
+Blowers have maximum power almost out of the gate
-Blowers have a parasitic loss

There's some plus' and minus'. lol

For most of us, the Ecoboost turbo lag is just not noticeable. I definitely noticed it with the old Passat diesel turbo, but not with this one.

Is it only for towing?

If you're going to enjoy it too... that boosted 5.0 will be a blast! The tuned EB will be a normal truck, with good MPG.

Towing power wouldn't even be debatable... the 5.0 will out pull that tuned EB from a dig or any speed up to any speed...

5.0

The mpg towing with the eco is not good. I know there will be some that disagree so feel free to cruise around this forum and note all the people's mpg when towing with the eco.

That 5.0 with supercharger will get reasonable mpg all the time, tow great and be a blast to drive when you want to lean on the go pedal a bit.

On another note, parasitic loss? You are talking a few hp to make exponentially more. It is really a none issue. If you really want to look at it that way then the turbo does have some loss as well due to increased back pressure in the exhaust. Again minor and not worth talking about.

Think about it this way, you are talking towing concerns right? Do you want a turbo charged V6 or a supercharged V8? Is there really any question there?

Let's put it another more simple way. Forced induction on a V6 or V8 for better towing?

If we were talking stock it would be the eco hands down, however . . .

The SC'd 5.0 without a doubt. Just watch the tranny. Not sure what kind of torque its rated for long term

If you've got money for either, that 5.0 is just waiting to be woken up.

I would take a SC'd V8 any day. But like smurf said, not sure how long the tranny would hold up to the added power over time. They are rated for x-amount of torque, but I'm old school in thinking you want something that can handle at least 1.5 times the max of the current set up.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a SHO right now so I was only considering the ecoboost originally when I get a F150 but they still want $40k+ for a '13 FX4 ecoboost. I found a great deal on a low mileage FX4 with the 5.0 and that got me thinking. I have a 2.3 Whipple on my '03 Cobra and I see how well the 5.0 in the Mustang performs with a TVS blower so I just needed to reconfirm that is a no brainer. I'll have to look into the transmission, I know the one in the Mustang is pretty much bulletproof to 900hp but this is a totally different application. I would only be towing maybe 10x a year and half of those trips would be 50 miles one way to that track. My concern with the 5.0 is pulling a 24' enclosed with my Cobra in it before I install the blower.

Basically my options are;
'11 FX4 (fully loaded minus appearance package) 5.0 25k miles - $33,500
'13 FX4 (fully loaded with appearance package) Ecoboost 16k miles - $38,000

This is the blower I would be going with;
