Since I had the tsb performed, I've only heard the noise once. It was -5 and a strong headwind at the time. When I towed my sleds it never happened once and at the time it was 5 outside with a slight headwind. The tsb did change the shift points on the truck slightly higher which I'm not completely satisfied with but I can live with to get rid of the grinding noise.

I had the same problem but it got to the point that the pump always made the noise when running and had to be replaced. Ford did warenty it and the truck is now silent

What pump did they replace? Temperature or towing does not change anything on mine. It just does it randomly loaded or not. Left Michigan and now are In key west

They changed the vacuum pump, any time you engage the turbos the engine is nolonger producing vacuum so the vacuum pump is used to maintain a minimum amount for brakes, climate control and other engine funtions.
The pump is located under the air filter box.

Thanks Carlo b. I have 2013 max tow. From what I understand the elevens and twelves had an electric vacuum pump and the thirteens are can driven. Temp plays no part with mine, I went from Mich to key west and back and had it on and off the whole trip.and of course now that I'm back home it has not done it ..

I'm pretty sure the vacuum pump is not the problem for the issue that farmboy84 and I have been describing with our trucks.

I have the same problem, it had only done it to me while pulling my sxs but it's annoYing as hell. Sounds just like Ford guy is explaining...if I touch that throttle at any time why it's doing this sound it immediately quits...I thought it was my aftermarket air intake but it does it with the factory one also.....any help would be appreciated!

It almost acts like a relief valve in the trans. Need to put one on a dyno. I urge everyone here to call ford and document it....
