I'm looking for similar info. I live in coastal North Carolina (Outer Banks), I've been looking at the Big-Tex & Bri-Mar models. I also have a John Deere 1025r tractor. I'm looking for about a 14' so I can haul my tractor also. A lot of hurricane cleanup around here as well as the occasional stone and other heavy items. Just took my 6 x 12 open trailer filled with pine needles, branches and dirt mixed in. Totaled around 4k load at the dump. My winch broke and had to unload it by hand. At 60 yrs. old NEVER again. Have to get a dump.

I have a 2016 F150 Lariat fully loaded, 5.0 5.5' bed.Anybody see any problems with a 14'? What is your thoughts on a gooseneck? Sure would help making those tight turns.

I have a 2016 Lariat Max Tow package. It handles the 14' that is rated for 15,400#. The F150 will not handle it fully loaded, but up to about 10,000#s it is perfect. I did install a pair of 2,000# air bags that help.

I have a tree service and own two dump trailers. I normally pull them with much bigger trucks so my favorite is much too heavy to pull with a half ton pickup. It's a Texas Pride and has a 20K lb dump capacity rating (dual batteries, larger twin cylinders, etc). Twin 9K lb axles and assuming 2K lb tongue weight. The empty trailer is almost 5000 lbs. It's a beast and very well made. I would look at smaller trailers from them or a couple other good brands like Big Tex.

My second trailer is a U-Dump 16K lb capacity. I bought it over 2 years ago to replace a 15 year old trailer. It works well now but I had multiple issues with component failures as well as poor build quality. I ordered it with 10 gauge sides and floor but the first one they gave me was 12 gauge sides. The owner apologized profusely and asked his foreman in front of me "Where did all these 12 gauge sides come from?" (as if he didn't know). I had other issues such as no tabs on the frame to keep the bed from twisting side to side when cornering, poorly designed gate latches that were impossible to use as designed and an axle hub that fell off when the weld failed at 6 months old. The side handle tongue jack was too close to the hitch so if the truck was slightly turned when hooking or unhooking, you couldn't turn the crank handle without hitting the truck.

I bought the Texas Pride to replace the U-Dump, but by that time I had fixed almost all of the issues so I ended up keeping both. I actually use the U-Dump more because it is 1500 lbs lighter but the Texas Pride is by far a much better built trailer. I would never buy another U-Dump.

I'd love to know what the tongue weight is with it at 10,000lbs.

Thanks Skwerl, I wasn't looking at something that large. I wasn't looking at Texas Pride trailers (no experience with them) maybe I'll look closer. I actually wanted a single cylinder lift. I've been looking at the Big Tex 14LX. It weighs in around 3,960# empty. I've also looked at PJ Trailers which has less weight. I would like a low,2 foot sides so my tractor can load stuff into the trailer for the sides.Must include stake pockets so I can add height only when needed.

I am trying to be mindful of limitations of my truck (I do have the Max Tow Package) and may add bags as Gadget suggested. I have 60k invested in my truck and do not want to replace it. I made the decision not to go with the F250 based on the HUGE mpg difference. 18mpg vs 8 mpg. I do a lot of travelling as well. I live at the coast so the local law are on top of weight limits all the time. My tags are rated at 12K so I do have to keep my loads at a minimum. Truck and trailer would already take up around 9K leaving at max 3K loading capability...not much. I may need to look at other options. I haven't looked yet to see what the limits are on my truck, I need to do that. But the local law enforcement usually only checks to see if tags cover the weight.

Anybody have experience with gooseneck trailers? What will a gooseneck change to my abilities?

With Truck & Trailer weighing 10K at the scales, my tongue weight was right at 500 - 550 lbs.which was perfect for a 5k load.

You don't want a gooseneck with a half ton IMO. You give up way too much in maneuverability and will need to wait for oncoming traffic to clear every time you want to turn on a 2 lane road.

I understand about waiting for oncoming traffic. Not a lot of traffic in my area but it is something to consider. What do you mean by giving up maneuverability? Seems like I would have more options in moving around and not worrying about jack-knifing or damage to the rear of the truck. (Don't ask me about that) shame you can't just buy a tail light lens anymore, you have to get the whole assembly .

I was just wondering if it would give me more or less towing weight and if there were any other things to watch out for...eg; dumping, etc.
