Default Cruise Control while Towing

Got in to a talk with a fellow camper yesterday about towing and using cruise while towing. I use it always and he said never, never use cruise while towing. Using it I think it works great and never have a problem. What do all you do??

I will only use it when cruising on flat highways with little or no wind. So, around here, I rarely use it

Always. Way too much going on while towing such as: checking side mirrors, traffic and safe distances, monitoring the trailer and brakes, tire pressure monitoring, navigation & route guidance, passengers and gear are safe and secure. I'll take all the help I can get from cruise control in maintaining a safe speed.

I don't use it because of the increase in shifting in hilly areas... i'd rather just moderately slow down on the way up and moderately speed up on the way down.

the only thing i've seen ford specifically mention towing and cruise control is that it will turn off if you drop speed by 14 mph while it's trying to maintain it's speed, so i doubt there is much concern with using it

always. used it in my 6.0l PSD too. wayyyy too much stuff to pay attention to in the effort of remaining safe to justify not using it.

Always, only turn it off going down steep hills so it doesn't downshift.

I've towed 10's of thousands of miles using cruise control; no issues whatsoever. I do not use it in hilly territory as it consumes more fuel. In hilly territory, it makes more sense to gain speed downhill and bleed it off going uphill; and not using cruise of course.

On the flat highways of Florida etc I use it, unless it's raining. Once I hit the mountains or hills I usually turn it off.

Conditions permitting, always use it. In my Ecoboost, at least. Works fine in mountains, flats, wherever.

I don't use it in my Suburban, however -- way too much downshifting and falling over itself to maintain speed, since it can't hold a gear. Since the EB tows along nice and easy in 6th gear, no undue shifting or revving. Plus, without cruise, I'd be inching up to unnecessary speeds, as the EB chomps at the bit! Love it.

FWIW, I'm not sure about the F150, but my 2006 Duramax had tow/haul programming for towing in cruise, so in that truck, at least, GM had towing in cruise in mind. Can't recall anything in the F150 manual for or against towing in cruise.
