Default CAT Scale Weight

Earlier this morning I had the opportunity to run my truck and 6x10 trailer over a scale. The last few times I’ve tried it’s either been down, or I’ve been in a hurry.

Did this get weighed correctly? Looks like I just got the drive and steer axles. I’m assuming the trailer weight is added with the drive weight.

This was a full bed load of equipment, and the trailer had two race prepped sport bikes, along with other gear, cooler, etc. Full 36 gal tank plus my 200 lb butt.

Did I somehow screw the weigh process up?

Yep seems so. Need to stop with your axles on the 3 different concrete pads. Looks like you pulled to far forward so the trailer and rear axle of the truck where on the same pad.

Yeah that’s what I thought too. I pulled up all the way onto pad #1.

I may try to hit the scales on the way home this evening and see if I can correct it. Only thing I’ll be missing is probably 6 gal of fuel and 8 bottles of water or so.

On a positive note... Unless you are transporting huge quantities of steel, you should be good with weight...

Haha. Nope. No steel for me.

Reweighed it last night on the way home. Weights are a tad different, although not by much. 40 lbs total it looks like. I burned through about 6 gal of fuel in the bike/generator, plus lost a bit in water and misc stuff.

This would be a 2020 XLT 3.5L Eco Screw 4x4. Payload on the sticker is 1866. Small 6x10 enclosed United motorcycle trailer with two bikes, suits, and other riding gear, plus a cooler loaded with ice/drinks. The bed is loaded with tools/canopy/chairs, spare tire, EU2200i generator, 2 3 gal fuel cans, and a few other little things. Cab is just myself, but lots of other little things/gear.

Now you have piece of mind that your truck is more than enough.

Yep.....not that I had worried about that, but it's nice to see how much everything really does weigh. Having the 3.5L, its nice to know too that I've got plenty of room to grow. I'd love to get a proper toy hauler some day....well, that and a pontoon boat at retirement. Not that the 2.7L wouldn't have handled any of that, but the 3.5L gives me plenty of leeway. Honestly, when I got this truck, this was the only one available with all the other "must haves" on my list. It just happened to be the 3.5 Eco, so that worked out well. My previous 5.0L pulled about this same set up nicely too, although it seemed to work a bit harder, especially in the mountains.

FWIW, if you load the CAT app on your phone and setup an account, you can roll up and do the entire weigh using your phone, never have to park and get out of your rig.

I've run my truck with horse trailer over 3 times just to validate everything. Gives good peace of mind.
