Default Brake controller harness not hooked up???

Hello All,

New to the F150 world and came up with my first question. I am trying to hook up a brake controller to the factory harness. I looked around here and it was said there is a grey plug located next to the OBD port, I looked and Bam it was there. Gave it a little wiggle to break away from the electrical tape and all there was is a grey plug not wired into anything.

The truck is a 2013 XLT with the factory tow package (I believe) It has a factory trailer hitch with the 4/7 way factory plug. This is all hooked up because I plugged my trailer in and it lit up everything. Also under the back seat was a small bag with a factory brake controller pig tail and a fuse along with instructions, all of this make me believe this is a full factory tow package (this is a work purchased truck and I was not there during purchasing)

My question is something missing? Do I not have a factory harness for the controller? Or do I need to look in another place to plug all of this in? I did look under the dash and I do not see an obvious place to plug anything in.

Factory bag under back seat

Found next to the OBD

If you have the factory tow package I think the wire harness should be all hooked up.

Take a look at the video below where when the guy pulled his panel parts back he found that his truck had the plug connected to the harness and just laying in the area behind where the controller goes. Hopefully you'll find the same thing:

If you look at the thing you found, its the same as the harness thing in the bag (just doesn't have any wires in it), somewhere under your dash there's a cable with an end that will plug into. Are you saying that grey thing didn't have any wires plugged into the other side of it, if so, the cable is floating around under your dash somewhere.

The video KD posted is basically the same thing mu truck has. At 3:38 to guy says he cut the tape and just had the plastic thing...same as mine.

Sea, I have stuck my head under the driver side dash, felt all around and I find nothing loose, taped to something else or anything that leads me to think the wired pulled out or something odd happened.

I am going to pull the dash apart tomorrow and see if it is behind the factory location like the video.

It was connected to the rear of the cubby where the oem controller goes on my 2009. Remove the cubby and unclip it from the back. Worth a look. My prodigy fits into the cubby perfectly.

So mine is pretty much just like the video, only difference the harness was plugged into the plastic cubby. Plugged my controller in and it lit right up. Just need to test out the trailer now.

Couple tips, The bolts are 9/32" for the bezel and the cubby. You could do it without pulling the 2 bolts for the bezel but doing that gives you a bit more room and made it easier. The harness is not that long, I do not believe you could just drop it down and get it to the OBD location. I chased my controller down with a piece of wire, connected it and pulled the whole thing down towards the pedals.

One last question, do I need to head to the dealer and get the ECU flashed, or is that only when you use the factory controller? Looking on other sites and after hooking up my other truck I believe this is pretty much a plug and play.

No, that is only with the factory controller. The flashing is what makes it an "integrated" TBC as opposed to the after market ones.

Don't forget to install the relay and fuse that were in the plastic bag, if you need to have the constant power/battery charge circuit operational.

Default Tow Component Positions

I installed my own OEM TBC. I took some Pix for a future write-up.

On my 2014, here's where the Fuse and Relay go...
