Default Brake controller

I need to install a brake controller on my 2019 f150. Can an aftermarket controller be use or is this something that the dealer has to do?

You can use an aftermarket such as Tekonsha, which will work but will not be integrated with the dash and will not have as much adjustability.

Oem is the best route. Bought from a Ford dealer as there are plenty of knock offs that cause all sorts of issues.

After instal, you need to program it via forscan or have the dealer program via IDS software.

2008 XL has the best answer, but to answer your question, yes you can. How easy will depend on what you have to start with. Do you have a 7 pin connector, or simply the 4 pin?

Buy the Ford unit, don't bother with anything else. I did this and then took to my dealer, they did the software update for $100 and it all works great.

Factory integrated will be the best option.

When I purchased my '24 STX there were no OEM brake controllers (BC) available. Dealer installed a Tekonsha P3 until the OEM's were available. It worked OK, except the braking part, LOL. Nothing showed on the dash though. After several months, the dealer was able to install an OEM BC and what a difference. The dash interface is very nice.....after having both, I highly recommend the OEM.
