Default Brake Controller

I just purchased a 2017 F-150 V6 w/ecoboost with tow package. It says it has brake assist. Not sure if I would need to install a brake controller? Brake assist same as brake controller? I am towing 3,900 lb travel trailer. Thanks.

Brake controller is installed in the dash. Either you have it, or you don't.

If you want to use your trailer's brakes, you will need to install one, which is plug 'n play, and can then be activated with FORScan or by dealer for a fee, unless the trailer has surge brakes.
