Default Boat Trailer Repaint

Coming up to the time where I should consider painting my boat trailer. It's original to the boat (1994) and paint is all original. Trailer color now is the blue and pink combo with at was popular in the 90's (faded). Want to sand and paint my self.

New truck is on order and it's magnetic. Was thinking about raptor lining the entire trailer and using the magnetic color to match. Otherwise would use a shard or grey and and air gun.

What does everyone think about raptor lining a boat trailer any cons to doing so? Also where can I get the magnetic color this is crazy $$$.

If that raptor lining has texture similar to line-x, the dirty lake water will get down into the texture and be hard to clean/wash short of using a pressure washer IMO.

Real men tow pink is what I heard.

I would keep it blue, and change the stripe color to magnetic to match your truck in that wzy

Didn't think about the dirt getting in the texture. The raptor liner is like line-x with the texture.

Gotta be someone in your area that will do soda blasting and primer.

I wouldn't bother with a texture on the trailer, just makes it harder to keep it clean.

You can get the paint Ford makes for your trucks from any dealer. Depending upon the dealer, you may need to get a paint shop get it for you.

I'm opting out of the liner for that reason. Decided to work with a paint shop and see how they can match the magnetic color.

Unless it's MAACO, just have the shop use Ford's paint. It's not like it's really expensive or something.

If it's MAACO, my name is Achmed, and I was never here

I wouldn't pay a shop to paint a boat trailer. I used a bright color on this old trailer that might be obnoxious to you, but whatever color you choose, it can be done at home with a roller for nearly nothing. Just pressure-wash it a few times. You might even be able to do with the boat on the trailer.

I painted my boat trailer (very similar to yours, except single axle), and it was not bad at all. The hardest part was getting the 19' boat off the trailer. I used a rust reformer as primter, Rustoleum enamel with Majik paint hardener as the color coat, and applied it using Preval sprayers.

It was not bad at all. As with all painting projects, prep is the key. The nice thing about doing it yourself is you can make sure that stamped axle labels, trailer VIN plates, etc., are covered before painting.
