Going camping later this year for a family vacation and my job will be pulling a 16 foot car trailer with a Jeep on it. The campsite we’re getting doesn’t have any extra room to park the car trailer so it will have to be parked in the extra parking area and because of this I’m wanting to get a good lock for the trailers tongue so it stays where we leave it. I never looked into these before and a quick look on EBay brought up quite a few selections so I figured I’d come onto the forum and ask for recommendations.
I use one of these when I need to leave my boat trailer unattended. If I was in an area with a very high crime rate, I might put a boot on one or both trailer wheels.
I'm a big believer in this one. Any lock will be a deterrent, the stronger ones provide more protection in terms of the time it would take to defeat vs. whatever other targets are around, unfortunately. You'll have to decide if spending this much is worth your while.
Ok, thanks for the reply’s. I fully understand that locks are just a deterrent but I figured it’d be better than nothing.
The area we’re going doesn’t seem like it has much crime but you never know.
I went with the Proven locks last year. No I don't live in a high crime area but trailer theft is opportunistic. Any my trailer is easily accessible when my truck isn't in the way. I'm more concerned when I'm away from home. Sure I have theft coverage on the trailer, but I'd rather keep it.
The way they take them is back up, wrap your chains around their hitch, and away they go like meth heads. If it was me, I'd take a chain & lock, and throw it through the rear wheels and axle.
When I go to lake Powell I'm forced to leave my boat trailer unattended in the trailer parking lot for sometimes 2 weeks at a time. Knowing any theft deterrent is easily broken, I figure the more, the merrier. I just want to make stealing my trailer much more difficult than the next guys trailer. I use a hitch lock as well as a ball lock and I use at least one boot.
At least it will take a few extra minutes to defeat 4 different kinds of locks. That's a lifetime to a thief so they will just move on to a better opportunity. And they can't just hook up a chain and drive off since the boots are over the wheels and the boots are designed to puncture the tires if they attempt to drive off.
My trailer is as secure as I can make it.

Reason: Clarification
I have a place in West Virginia where I go for Deer hunting. After hunting season, sometimes I'm unable to tow my trailer with my Polaris Ranger in it back home. So I have to leave it there over the winter. A few years ago someone had broken into one of my Redneck hunting blinds. It was empty, so who knows what they wanted. Maybe they hunted out of it. The blind is about 1/2 mile from the mobile home we use during hunting season. And that's where I leave the Trailer and Buggy. It wasn't disturbed but I only had Store bought locks on the trailer and just a plain hitch lock. So after some research I went with the Proven Lock. It's heafty for sure, and does a pretty good job of concealing the chains. For the rear ramp door and side door on the Buggy trailer I went with a set of the Master Lock ProSeries, #6321. It's a hefty lock with a iron shroud to protect the shackle.
