Default Adding trailer brake control

2018 F150 Supercab Fx4 5.0 with 7050 payload and class 4 hitch here. I am seeing conflicting info about adding a trailer brake. I want to pull a travel trailer under 5k. No towing package showing on window sticker. Can a trailer brake be added to this truck? Thank you.

Default Be aware of substandard brake controllers

There are cheap knockoff controllers out there. Unfortunately, there isn't a cheap knockoff controller that is safe and works correctly. Some even say they are Ford factory built controllers but they are not.
Don't even attempt to get cheap with installing a brake controller. It's not worth the effort or the safety of you and your family. Just buy the Ford controller. It sucks but you're going to spend around $450.00 to have Ford install it but that's the only way to get it done correctly.
The only other option is to find one at a wrecking yard from a truck that had it in a tow package and find someone that has forscan that can program things for you.
I tried and tried to find a cheap way to get one installed but in the end, I just paid the price and had Ford do it
Btw, San Tan Ford in Chandler Arizona is fantastic.

You can install yourself and program with ForScan without any issue. But you MUST buy an OEM legit ITBC.

You can do aftermarket but if you go with the Ford OEM it communicates with the trucks ABS unit for better braking control.
