Adding Towing Capability to F-150 Without Tow Pkg
My 2018 F-150 was a rental vehicle in its former life and as such did not include a tow package. To date I have added a class IV hitch, an OEM 7 pin trailer harness and an OEM combination 7/4 pin connector, and an OEM trailer brake controller. Everything works as advertised except the 12V charge line to the trailer connector.
Has anyone successfully added these things to an F-150, without a tow package and been successful in having the 12V charge line be active? The truck recognizes a trailer being connected and the 25A fuse is in place and is good. All requirements, like engine running, brake engaged, doors closed, have been met. A voltmeter across the charge line/battery shows no change between engine on or off. A clue may be that I do not have a 'Towing' menu in the productivity screen, although other trailer related items are present in the 'Settings' menu. I have yet to find a setting via ForScan that will enable that menu.

I take it you enabled the Trailer Brake Control Module and Trailer Brake Controller Gain Setting in the IPC module.
You need to have a good ground connection at the wiring behind the bumper. Tightening the screw has fixed a few problems with the 7-pin .

Yes, TBC installed, programmed and working. The ground must be good as all of the lighting works as well as the brake circuit.
If you don't have the trailer menu, you have no way to set up the controller or ID particular trailers. You do need to be able to set up a trailer for the module to activate the 12v power. Just out of curiosity, have you made sure the truck was running, and the drivers door was closed before checking? As others have noted, the door needs to be closed before the power comes on. Do you get a Trailer Detected screen come up?
