I am debating on purchasing a travel trailer, I currently own an open and an enclosed utility trailer so I am not new to towing. However it appears that my new truck, 2016 Lariat, 5.0 with 3.73 and EBC does not have the towing package so I am limited to 5,000 lbs. I have the class iv receiver and the 4 pin and 8pin wiring harness. So the only thing that I am missing the the auxiliary trans cooler and the larger front sway bar. The travel trailer I am looking to purchase is a 19' with a dry weight of 3200 lbs. So even with water and camping gear and a WDH I should be under 5,000 lbs however I would still like to add the cooler. Does anyone know if this is possible or difficult to do? Thanks

It seems extremely strange that you would have 3.73's, EBC, Hitch and wiring but not have the towing package. The EBC would have had to have been order specifically without the tow package, why would they do that?

If its anything like the cooler in my 14' the normal transcooler is built into the radiator. The auxiliary one is in series with the radiator cooler so the Trans fluid flows from the radiator, into the aux cooler and then heads back to the transmission. The aux cooler just sits in front of the radiator. I dont know how hard it would be to add it but my guess is you may need the mounts and stuff. I would imagine you could just use hose from the local auto parts store to make the connections.

I had the trailer tow package on my 13 and 14 ecoboosts so I am familiar with what it looks like in front of the radiator. I was changing the oil in my 5.0 when I noticed the cooler was not present which made me believe that my truck did not have trans cooler and I started digging to confirm that it did not have it equipted

I'm not sure how to say this so it makes sense, but on my 2010 without a trans cooler, they ran lines and just put in a coupling instead of a cooler. The mounting brackets were there on the radiator. I got a cooler and the short line from the cooler to the coupling The tricky part is you need a TRANSMISSION FITTING REMOVAL TOOL not a fuel line removal tool, they look similar but are different.

Seaeagle - I think the second pic shows the lines going to a trans cooler in the radiator.

PSUcivil - Use a VIN decoder and see what your truck came with. Can you post a pic like above?

I used the vin decoder and it said "medium towing package". Also it will be tough to get a photo like that without removing my grille and the active grille shutters. I may attempt this weekend.

Did you try this site, http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do You'll get a 4 page list of what equipment you have, its' crazy because is Ford Europe, but it works. Kinda like a GM "build sheet"

I'm pretty sure your truck already has one. You don't need the MAX tow package to get the trans cooler. Just the regular tow package.
