It's a combination of mass and wheel base that makes the superduty the choice for long trailers. The longer and heavier the tow vehicle, the more stable the trailer will be. A long trailer will dictate how the short WB light truck will act, so if a force pushes the back of the trailer, it will cause the truck to move around, but that same force on a trailer with a long WB heavy truck wont.

If you are only planning two trips a year, and they are not very far, and you have the payload, then go for it. You might not like how it handles though, so be prepared for possible few white knuckle moments.

how about extra weight in bed to make truck heavier?.....

Do you have enough unused payload capacity to add extra weight in the bed without exceeding the GVWR of the tow vehicle?
