Default 28 ft TT is really 32.5' Too long for an HDPP F150?

I would set it up likely with a propride or Hensley hitch, but a lot of folks would say the above described trailer is too long, and sway will be an issue. What do you think? I would be driving a distance to get it, and do not want to be disappointed when I do get it. This of course assumes that Ford will fix my truck to begin with....

This is sorta the trailer version of the fifth wheel I was considering, as far as weights go it dovetails nicely where the Fifth would be using up every once of payload.

I don’t see why that trailer would be a problem. I tow a 25ft (really ~29ft) and get absolutely zero sway, with a cheap WDH hitch. You’ll be totally fine, just make sure it’s set up correctly.

I too think you would be fine. I just did a similar thing with an airstream that weighed @ 3700 lbs and towed it on the ball with no WDH and it was fine. In your case I’d do the WDH for sure cause 10% of hitch weight would put you over the 500 lbs hitch weight. I went to the CAT scale and weighed the truck with full tank of gas then I went back once I was hooked up to get a sense of actual tongue weight and axle weights.

I think youre gonna be ok with a standard WDH

You asked for opinions so here’s mine. I’m not a gambler and don’t like taking big $ chances so me personally, no I wouldn’t do it.

My Jayco is a 28BHKS and is 34' overall. I use an Equalizer brand WDH and I don't have any sway issues. This past year I towed it from Ontario to Florida and Ontario to the Nova Scotia (both 5000km trips) and the truck handles the trailer just fine. I wouldn't go much larger than this, but the truck handles my trailer confidently.

With a Hensley Hitch, sway will be no issue. My retired parents pulled a 35ft monster with one and my dad said he could finally drive again with one hand on the wheel.

I'll add my .02 and will agree you should be fine w/ any WD hitch as long its installed properly and stay w/in the speed limits. When you mentioned that you have an HDPP, it made my head nod, but anything else I'd cringe. I personally only used the Equalizer and that should work for your application.

I have a Grey Wolf 27RR toy hauler (33' total length) that I pull with our 2017 F150 Lariat. At 8,000 LBS. fully loaded (and occasionally slightly over) I have hauled this thing from NE Ohio to Florida, the Carolinas, Upstate NY, PA, MI and IN with no issues whatsoever. Using a Husky Centerline WDH. You should be fine.

Been there ...Done That...almost. Pulled a 31' TT with our '13 F-150 XLT HD Ecoboost (2172 payload) using a Husky Centerline W/D hitch. Pulled the TT muy bueno 95% of the time....when the breeze's weren't blowing. If any slight side gust hit us we'd feel the trailer wiggle, & I mean wiggle. On a return trip coming down from Price Utah to Green River just before the interstate, a gust hit us and I thought we was gonna be off roading. Scared the bageezus out of DW, didn't make me any younger. Sold it that winter and got the 5'er. Best move we ever made. Wind hasn't effected us now in the 4 years we've towed it. So F175 ... good luck & be careful.

Hi Milo, experiences like that are what I am trying to avoid. That is one reason I would be spending 3 grand on the propride or hensley (still have to sort that one out).
What hitch are you using on the 5er?
