2021 Lariat payload and tow capacities
Hello,
I am using Ford online tool to build a 2021 F150 Lariat or XLT for towing. I want to confirm my numbers as the options can be confusing, so asking here. 2021 F150 Lariat, Screw, 6.5-ft box, 3.5 EcoBoost, 4x4, 3.55 e-lock axle ratio with 500A, max trailer tow package. From the spec sheet, maximum conventional tow capacity is 13,800 lbs with GCWR of 19,400. Payload of 2155 with 7150 GVWR. I build an XLT with same specs. The tow capacity and pay load are the same. If I go 5.5-ft box, the number for tow capacity goes up by 100 lbs and the payload drops by 55 lbs. Not too significant, so I am debating between the 5.5 vs 6.5 boxes. Am I correct? Does anyone with the same truck can confirm the numbers? Thank you. |

You'll likely be more in the 1500-1700 range because of the Supercrew and all that sheet metal, fabric and soundproofing. I have a '19 Supercab Lariat 6-1/2 box and a payload of 1900.

I don’t think you can order a 21 anymore. Good exercise for when 22s open up though.

Regarding the real world pay load capacities you guys are saying, Ford published specifications are wrong/over estimated? What? HDPP shows up with XL, XLT with regular cab and 8-ft box. Regular cab is not an option for this truck.

Unless things have changed back to olden days, you’ll only find a 301A XLT at the highest trim truck for a SCrew HDPP.
You definitely won’t be grabbing a reg cab Lariat. If such a creature exists now, I’m taking notes. |
Yeah, I am not getting a regular cab. College days are a distant memory; good times, but long ago. This truck isn't a dedicated work truck either, so not going to go bare bones. It will be towing: (1) a utility/tilt bed/drop deck trailer to haul equipment for maintaining a 14-acre property, (2) a travel trailer, max 22', for the camping trips with the wife, kid, dog. #2 way more often.

For a Lariat Screw with 500A, I'd bet your payload would be 1,700 lbs or a bit more, which will be plenty for the TT you plan to tow. Not sure how much your utility trailer weighs, but I'd guess you'd be fine up to 7,500 lbs. Maybe a bit more on occasion. The issue arises when you decide your 22' TT isn't big enough and you want a larger/heavier one.
My '18 Lariat with 502A and panoramic moonroof has a max payload of 1,647. |
For reference only--not saying this an apples-to-apples comparo--my 2018 XL S-Cab 3.5 EB 145" WB (6.5' bed) 4x4 has a GVWR of 7050# and a payload of 1930#. No fancy stuff, no sunroof.
