Default 2019 Screw without receiver “Help”

Hello everyone. Recently purchased a 2019 F-150 XLT super crew 4x4 without a tow package and without the class 4 hitch. This was a rental with very low miles and in great condition. It has only the 4 pin mounted underneath the bumper. Before I purchased it, I spoke with a parts guy at my local dealership who apparently gave me bad info. Yesterday I went to the dealership to purchase 4/7 pin harness, tbc and receiver hitch. I was told a week ago by a different guy that I would have no issues installing these parts and making them work. Apparently, that will be a problem. Does anyone have any experience with adding all the necessary parts to one of these vehicles with only the factory 4 pin? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Keep in mind that without at least the "class 4 reciever" package you wont have the upgraded radiator, upgraded cooling fans. You also may not have the factory oil cooler either.
If your towing something like a smaller boat youll be fine.

In fact I think your truck is actually limited to trailer weights of 3000 lbs or less.

Most small SUV's are rated 3500lb tow.

With only a bumper ball installed, the truck is rated for 500lb tongue weight, 5000lb trailer weight. Installing a hitch receiver would be more convenient, and installing all the additional gear would help with towing control and cooling, but legally the truck will be limited to 500/5000. Some will come here to say nya, nya, towing police, who cares.

If you get caught and someone dies, it's criminal time. There's a video somewhere on utube of a truck pulling a trailer that gets rear ended, then proceeds to take out other vehicles. Even in a case like that, if you are over your vehicle's ratings, you can end up carrying some of the liability. Ambulance chasers aren't stupid, they make their clients a ****-ton of money by checking on all the stuff we can be doing that's not legal. If the judge is an ***, you can even get busted for towing a TT with a GVW that exceeds your TV's tow limit, even if it's empty and well under.

There is a thread for doing this on the forum. I believe I found it by searching for "7 PIN harness" try https://www.f150forum.com/f118/4-pin...-7-pin-309811/

Once the components are installed the Brake Controller needs to be activated. You can use Forescan or take it to the dealer. Forescan is a free download to your laptop computer but you will need to purchase a $10.00 one year license to enable it to activate the controller.

There is also a brake controller fuse #24 30 amp that may need to be added and fuse #29 25 amp for 12v pwr to the 7 pin that may need to be added.

I just did this to my 2019 XLT 3.5 with the four pin harness. Purchased from Enterprise Car sales in Gilbert, AZ.

These are the part numbers I used

HL3Z-13A576-D 4/7 PIN WIRE HARNESS $39.77
FU5Z-14489-A 7 PIN CONNECTOR $33.59
JL3Z-2C006-AA BRAKE CONTROLLER $88.35
Above parts purchased from FairwayFordParts.net

I purchased a Curt 14017 class IV hitch Curt as it was significantly less expensive than the Ford Part.

P.S. I think the parts guy gave you good info. Dealer Service Depts. are not all equal. Some are better than others. If there is another Dealer in your area you could check with them. Example: The closest dealer service dept to me, told me a noise I was hearing was caused by the windshield. Second dealer diagnosed it a bad left front hub; ordered the parts under warranty and fixed it the next day.
There is an independent repair shop I have used that specializes in Ford Trucks and they said they could activate the Brake controller.

Good Luck!

at minimum, it's civil negligence. And civil tort will cost you more than you wish to know. There's not a personal injury lawyer in the country who wouldn't sign on to a slam-dunk negligence case like towing over manufactured published limits.
