You answered your own question. Your pulling a huge parachute, the faster you drive, the more it drags you down.

That camper in SweetLou's photo looks like the front is up higher than the rear. Properly hitched with a WDH, the front should be slightly lower. Makes a big difference. also, slow down ! What's the hurry ? It's a vacation. Chill. I drive 54 mph with tow/haul and cruise when towing my 7500+ pound TT and just let the 3.5 EcoBeast do it's magic. 87 octane.

1) I thought the front was higher too. It’s actually perfectly level. Also I hit the scales and confirmed exactly 1000lb tongue weight (before WDH) which is about 14% tongue weight.

2) I don’t disagree, but with two small kids, the sooner I get there the better!!

Did another 650 miles with the 7500lb TT. Averaged 8.3 over entire trip. Speeds averaged 55-75 depending on conditions. Ran mostly premium (holy shnikees is it expensive to fill up on premium!)

On the trip out I found the EB maintaining 9th gear on the flats so I only locked out 10. On the trip back I locked out 9 and 10 and found the truck stayed in 8 almost exclusively (even when climbing modest grades) and made for an overall much more enjoyable ride. I also averaged better mpg (7.8 on way out, 8.3 overall by the time I got home) with similar speeds and trip times. Power was plentiful as always.

Next trip in two weeks. I’ll experiment with turning off the sway control. Rumors are here that turning it off increases mpg. I am definitely locking out 9/10 from here on out.

I habe 3.73 rear end FYI. I’m sure with 3.55 you might be slightly different results.

On my 2016, I noticed a MPG jump towing exclusively in 5th gear instead of 6th. Being out of boost increased my MPG, plus less gear hunting.

I was wondering (I ordered a 2019) what gear I will tow in with the new 10 speed. Probably 7 or 8?

7th gear is a 1:1, 8th, 9th and 10th are overdrives. So, depending on your new truck's axle gearing, I'd say, probably both 7th and 8th with maybe 9th if you have a tailwind. As you can verify, it's always better to lock out any taller/higher gears you don't use.

'18 CC 3.5 3.31. Towing in 6th is key at 62mph. Still get's crappy mileage. But much much better than in 7th.

Trailer axles 5270 lbs

Can anyone provide feedback on the towing mileage that I might expect when towing a 7,500 pound TT.

Travel speed would be 62 - 65 miles per hour.

You can assume flat terrain with minimal wind speed and regular gas.

Thank You
I get 8.5 - 8.9 at 67mph, but 50% is in the Appalachians, and I call up the turbos at leisure.

I get 9mph on flat roadways

Trailer is ~9,500lbs wet.
