2016 F150, Interior lights on trailer only work while the ignition is on.
Years ago on my 2010 I had posted that the lights in my trailer only worked when the ignition was on. bubbabud was kind enough to tell me how to jump a particular relay and get the lights to work. Well a month ago I got a new 2016 XLT Sport and I am back to no lights in the trailer. The problem is with all of the new technology and computers I am afraid to screw something up. So I am turning to the best knowledge base around.
I have a pace 5x12 enclosed utility trailer with brakes and back up battery. My truck is a 2016 XLT screw w/ 5.0 and trailer package with integrated trailer brake and the backup assist. If you guys have fixed this problem, I would really appreciate the help. Thanks.

So get out the owners manual and find the relay and jumper it. You will be able to run down your battery if you leave the trailer lights on or if your trailer has a bad battery.

I do realize that, it's just in the past at times I need to load my trailer (it's a utility trailer) with my gear at night and is such a pain to have to keep the engine running.
My question is which relay (is it a different relay from the 09-14 models) and what do I jump it to? If anyone knows I would really appreciate the info.

Your trailer lights should be hooked to your trailer battery so that you do not need to use truck power.
Dont change the truck, fix the trailer wiring. I have never seen a trailer that has interior lights not hooked up to the trailer battery. With that set up you could not use the lights when the truck is not around, like when it is parked.

The relay info should be in your owners manual. If no relay then you'll need to run a fused wire from your battery. Just remember it is always on and don't run your truck battery down.
As an alternative you could buy a cheap compact jump starter and use that to power the trailer lights. If the trailer lights are LED it should last a good while and may come in handy if you need a jump.

You might consider installing a battery in the trailer. Then you'd always have lights, and the battery would still charge when the truck is running.

2016 maybe the 15's have a smart battery system.. it needs to sense a battery and be listed in the towing app....then cycle the brake to activate...works with my electric brake trailers...but as stated you need an on board battery to keep the light on in the trailer...ford failed with this change to the system from the 09-14 models...this new system is a total p.o.s....from the old...
