Default 2.7-3.5 Ecoboost Haul compared

This thread probably exists so if so please post link-

So i am going after an F150 next week and want to haul up to 2k. This being said i have no other specs for the truck than this-in saying that is the 2.7 even half what they say? Is it just a commuter truck? With the price difference I'm hoping the 2.7 is a viable option but i cant get a straight answer.

Do you want to haul 2000lb? Or tow 2000lb? Big difference.

If you want to tow 2000lb, a Honda Civic can do that

if you want to haul 2000, I don’t believe there is a 2.7 available with more than 2000lb payload. 3.5 or 5.0 only.

with the 2.7EB, that payload is only possible if you get the 2.7 payload package and go very light on other options. You can do it. Just choose options wisely.

So the engine can keep up with that kind of weight? I want that all in the back of the truck.

You are going to need a HDPP truck to haul 2000 pounds. A 2.7 will come on on the light duty frame unless you get the 157 inch WB. Most of the 2.7 will have a payload of 1200-1400 pounds. If you want to haul 2000 pounds you really need about 2500 pounds of payload to cover you, your Bedliner and any other stuff you have. To get 2500 payload you need a HDPP truck.

You're talking about payload.

F150's with a 2000 lb payload aren't common. You're in F250 territory. None of this has anything to do with the engine, it is about the trucks suspension being able to safely carry that much weight. Very few F150 will have 2000+ lbs payload regardless of the engine.

If you want to carry 2000 lb loads in the most economical way buy a trailer and put the 2000 lbs in it. Any truck, SUV, and most cars will TOW 2000 lbs. But buying a truck that will CARRY that much weight means you're going to need to be one of the rare heavy duty 1/2 ton trucks or a 3/4 ton truck. A trailer along with a lighter duty truck would be a lot less expensive than buying one of the heavier duty trucks

It should be noted that HDPP trucks are rare to find on a lot. Every truck has a yellow payload sticker in the door jamb. To put 2,000 of cargo in, you would need a payload of 2,000 pounds plus the weight of all passengers, other cargo, bedliner or other accessories added after truck is made, etc.

OP, the 2.7 can move the weight just fine. However, you have a very specific need for weight carrying ability of the F150, haul 2k lbs plus you plus any other additional weights will put you quickly into the category of an F150 with the "Heavy Duty Payload Package."

As stated above, finding a truck on the lot with over 2000lbs payload may be the trick. My SCREW 4x4 STX has 1942lbs payload, but that is immediately diminished when my fat butt occupies the driver's seat. Keep that in mind...…..hauling 2,000lbs payload will require a truck with sufficient extra capacity, and may require going to a 3/4 ton gasser.
