Steve in MD XLT build/mods
Hi all not sure if you would call this a build or just modding but I wanted to share what I will be doing to my truck when I finally get it!
I have on order a 2018 Ingot Silver F-150 XLT 302A, 2.7L EB,XLT power equip group,36gal fuel tank,tail gate step,navigation,Sync Connect,and 40/console/40 seats
The mods I plan to do is to change the grille to a XLT SE grille, change the rims to the XLT Sport rims, painted mirror caps and tailgate handle, bedrug XLT bedmat, tailgate damper, decals in tailgate lettering Soft Tonneua Cover, and custom made over wheel well storage boxes. Posting a couple of pics I photoshopped to get an idea of what it will look like after most of my mods.

So I am still 5 weeks away from my scheduled delivery day but am already accumulating parts and have the over wheel well boxes built.
I built them using regular Home Depot 1/2" (15/32") plywood screwed together with wood glue on the joints and painted Light Ford Gray paint from Tractor Supply
. I wanted a 6" wide box and also keep 48"+ between them for a sheet of plywood. My plan is to use the box link plates for securing my boxes. The boxes will be recessed so the outside edges will be under the bed rail. I notched the 1/2" plywood for the stake pockets and also for the clamps for the tonneua cover I used 1/4" Luan over the 1/2" plywood on that side and will be under the plastic bed rail top.
I cut a 2x6 down to 1.25" thick to go into the recessed pockets the box link plates set in so they are now flush with the sides of the bed. I will screw a 3/4" strip of plywood at the end of that 2x6 that the boxes will actually screw to. The box link at the tailgate will be in the open and the box will start behind it. The cab box links will be behind the box and non-usable. The boxes will fully enclose the wheel wells and I have carpeted the sides that will be in the bed with indoor/outdoor carpet also from HD. I didnt order the box link with my truck so I bought the plates with screws on Ebay and will use those screws to make the threads in the bed sides then use 65mm long screws to mount the boxlink plates with the 2x6's underneath.
I used carpet adhesive also from HD to glue the carpet to the boxes. I plan to put carpet on the cab bulkhead and sides of the bed using industrial strength velcro. making the bed totally carpeted.
I dont need the boxes for heavy items just small odds and ends and a few small tools. I dont really haul much my truck is just every day transportation.
