local tire shops tell me i have to get custom wheel spacers made if i want thing wider than 1.25 inches at a cost of 500 bucks /set of 4 plus taxes.

is this ridiculous or just cdns get ripped off as usual?

I wouldn't run spacers. Either swap the suspension for wider suspension or get wheels with a really big negative offset.

whats the difference besides cost wont it be functionally the same?

? most spacers will be hub centric and thus not vibrate correct?
but if the cost is gonna be 500 for spacers vs 1000 for new wheels might just get wheels

Don't run spacers all of the weight from your front end will sit on the studs of the spacers instead of the hub. I ignored what everyone was telling me and I ended up buying them and only ran them for 3 weeks. The front wheels sits like / \ on each side I took them off because of that and I had to drill out two studs on the spacer because the lug nuts were stuck on there. I torqued them by hand, then with a ratchet and finished them off with a impact gun but some how they ended up getting messed up on the stud.

Well built spacers that cost a lot of $$$$ won't do that but I still wouldn't trust a spacer.
