That's normal for the first few thousand miles. After 5k it should be better

Well I hope that is it....It can't get much worse..600 miles on the truck so far...So you're saying after a few thousand miles it should be up to a solid 16 mpg?? Thanks for the response, I was somewhat disheartened when I read another poster saying he got 21+mpg on the tank of fuel he had leaving the dealership....

I have personally gotten more than 21 mpg out of an ecoboost but I am also a conservative driver. I am curious what mileage I will get after 5k being how even on an unbroken in motor I was getting great mileage.
I have seen post after post of people in your same position that didn't have good mileage until they had a few thousand miles on it. Magic number seems to be between 3000 and 6000 with the avg being close to 5000 hence why I used that number for you as a reference of when it should get better.

Don't fret you got an awesome truck there.

I think you'll find the 3.55 LS perfect.

I have the 3.73 LS w/ the base engine.

With your engine's torque, I just can't think of a better ratio.

I went on the net to see what others might be saying / experiencing with their new trucks. I bought mine and took it home about ten days ago. I love the truck, it drives great, and has tons of power. There is only one small problem though::: I have gone through two tanks of fuel, putting on mostly highway miles, and my mpg is 15.5!! This better not continue at that rate or I will be very pissed.... Is there a break-in period needed for the better gas mileage? My dealer assures me that that is the problem. I checked as well to make sure that the parking brake was not on.. (I'm only slightly joking..) I love everything else about the truck, but if this keeps up I will not be happy... Anyone in the market for a slighly used ecoboost??????
I'm right there with you. This week I did mostly flat, straight, country blacktop driving and I'm sitting at 15.3mpg since my last reset (400m on the truck total). I have the supercab with off-road package so I have a 3.73 in the back. I also checked my parking brake, made sure I'm in 4x2, differential isn't locked, tow/haul button not pushed. I've been checking everything thinking something isn't right. The only time I see the instant mpg graph hit the 20 is when I'm coasting up to a stop sign.

This has been my experience too, with nearly every new vehicle I have owned; and this issue was discussed in another thread over a year ago.

It is not only the engine which is very tight and has increased friction, it is also the trans, the axles, the differentials, etc, which need that run-in period, to 'smooth-off' all the rough edges so to speak. On my 5.4 I started to notice a change after the first engine oil change (the break-in oil) and then the most after about 5,000 miles of driving including one long road trip, at freeway speeds, down to SoCal. I would also do some manual (actual gallons and actual miles) mileage checks, independent of the vehicle mileage computer. Also, I have found that conservative driving makes a big difference too, for the purposes of MPG checks. One brief test of the 'performance', on a long steep grade, will send the MPG into the basement.

I am sure you will be just fine! I cannot wait to experience this engine in my next F150. Everything I have heard or read, is nothing but positive; I just wish this motor had been available in Oh-9. But Oh-well, that's how they sell more trucks; leak the neat-stuff out, a little at a time, year after year.

my friend ordered one w/ 3.13 rear diff ratio.
Does it have better MPG w/ 3.13 rear diff ratio or only makes little difference.
and someone here said he got delayed boost w/ lower rear diff gear ratio. it that true?

What I though is that if you got lower gear ratio you should get better MPG.

guys pls give me some ideas.
