While my work truck was in the shop I got to thinking....
My 03 F250 needed to go into the shop as the 6.0l was giving me fits. The tech had a aftermarket program where he could revert back to any software version regardless of what was loaded in the truck. He loaded an older version of the factory software and man does the truck run so much better. He mentioned that ford kept coming out with more restrictive tuning to try and get better emissions/engine longevity/etc, etc.
Anyways it got me thinking of our trucks. I know ford has messed with the programming a few times since I have owned it to "help" fix the shudder issue. Guys have complained about getting worse mileage (me included) since the updates. I was curious if it would be beneficial to go back to an older software version.
Thoughts?

I wonder if you would have to have your custom tunes reflashed if you reverted the software?

I figured this would produce a little more discussion. I'm going to talk to the tech some more when I get back in town and see if he has a preferred ecoboost program and if he cant revert my truck back to it.

Yes you would have to get new tunes. They build the custom tune off of the tune your truck had at the time. Change the original tune, and you'll have to change the custom ones as well. Most will give you a discounted price if you get reflashed.

Wouldn't a custom tune completely negate the changes Ford made over time? Especially since torque tables are changed or removed. A reputable tuner should be able to maximize the various tables for optimal performance no matter what the stock file was.

If the stock program doesn't effect anything then why does it matter when they build the custom tunes?
