Question Test Driving 2012 Ecoboost FX4

Hello,

I am going to test drive a 2012 Ford FX4 Super Crew with 5.5' Bed tomorrow with 48K miles. Carfax reveals it is a Texas truck with dealer maintenance every 5,000 miles by the original owner. Interior looks clean minus the windshield washer **** on the steering wheel. Bed doesn't have a bedliner of any kind and looks like he only used it to haul bags of mulch or dirt.

Any advice/suggestions on possible driving tests to try and identify any transmission/intercooler/ecoboost issues? Truck is coming through Carmax so I would hope they accepted a good vehicle. I also plan on taking it to the local Ford dealer to do an inspection as if it were a certified Pre-owned ($140).

Thank you for any help!

My advise is to stay away from EcoBoost. Real trucks have V8's

Sounds like a great truck. Despite the issues I have had with mine I would buy another EcoBeast in a heartbeat. They can not be beat in low end torque and they push 5 extra horses from the factory than the 5.0!

They run great and they are fun to drive!

I think they are great!

They're all good trucks but I have no technical info in regards to what you're asking. I have the 5.0L and I love every bit of it. Buddy of mine has the "EcoBeast" (clever, I like it) and he loves every bit of it.

Consider it a "bump", while still having conversation, no one had replied so this brought it to the top of the page. But your input is much appreciated. Thank you, kind sir.

Skip the idiots with these responses.

Warm it up and stomp on pedal at cruise speed. See if it has a shudder. Otherwise normal things to check. Also, ask ford to pull the oasis report for you to show any work done. These engine and trucks run very well and are fairly reliable.

Thanks for the reply. I've been combing the forums for how people are noticing issues - so I will you those as a guideline. I have 5 days to drive the crap out of it so we will see how it goes.

Would the Oasis report be different then the maintenance record? I was able to contact the servicing dealer for this truck for the previous owner and nothing but regular maintenance was on file.
