Pure power 5.0 vs Turbo power ECO

Ahh yes, mission accomplished....I have stirred the pot!

There's nothing "plain" or simple about the V8. My 1971 Chevy has a plain ole simple V8.
I do go back and forth about the 5.0 vs ECO, because I do like the sound and idea of the V8. But I'll end up with the EcoBoost because it's high tech and packs a wallop.

Come on everyone. If you seriously need that much torque, don't you think your pushing your luck with a half ton? I'm so tired of seeing people post about their over loaded loads. If you kill someone with an unstable load - I hope you rot in a jail cell the rest of your life.
It's great that we can buy what we want though eh!!!

Would the 5.0 have worked? Of course. I drove a 5.0 and thought that it needed to be worked a little harder than I would like. The 5.0 is hardly what I would call a "plain old V8"

I'm thinking like my old man now that I'm in my thirties. We survived with half the power these trucks put out for years. Hell the farm tracktors have less power and they pull barns down. Why would we "need" so much power in measly one ton lol.

When gas is $4.00+ per gallon in the future, this little V6 is going to help me save my pennies for race fuel and nitrous refills for my Jeep.
The power #'s for the Ecoboost are on 87 octane. Ford hasn't completed testing on premium fuel to claim power #'s yet.
Wait until Diablosport gets a hold of one of these things . Magnaflow already has 2 exhaust systems in the works.

i chose the EcoBoost because of its Diesel like torque curve -its primary use will be as a tow vehicle and this engine on paper is far superior to any V8 on the market right now save maybe the 6.2 that has a somewhat similar torque curve.

Even in this last sentence, you're indirectly calling the 5.0 choice common-sense and the EB "hype".
Your poll didn't turn out the way you thought it would - don't sweat it. The 5.0 should be a good engine. As should the EB.
The time for second-guessing your choice is before you make it. It's a little late now.
Don't let some stupid forum poll keep you from enjoying the new truck.
Get out there and drive. Sling some mud on it. Wait...nevermind, you bought a 2wd. That sucks. You're going to hate it.

I love my new truck and the 5.0 engine in it, who knows I made decide to put a turbo or two on it one day...
As for 4 wheel drive, I never needed it to get to work or daycare to drop off the kids!

My grandpa had a Dodge 1 1/2 ton flat bed (40's model) that was geared so low its top speed was about 50 mph but it would pull or haul anything
The significance of the flat torque curve of the ecoboost is that it will make towing a pleasure versus a lousy ride. Having had several underpowered 1/2 tons that would shift gears about every 3 seconds trying to stay in the power band. Nothing more tiring that to hear the engine rev to over 5000 rpm as it jerks you back into the seat, then a minute later as you crest the hill it shift again. Do that for 8 hours and you will wish for a truck with a good torque curve. Heck my old 351 V8 would haul 8-10k lbs, but you could expect to loose speed going up hills and lots of jerking from downshifting. No Thanks!
