Also, if it is in "limp mode", it would be accompanied by a wrench light.

Just a thought and may be totally unrelated, but, having had a couple of high performance vehicles in my past of which were of the standard transmission flavor, an observation on this new ECO I have only had for a week. When driving say on a 50 MPH road the 6 speed trans shifts into 6th gear at what I consider too low a speed causing what I would refer to in a manual trans ******* the engine. Think that has any thing to do with these problems?

Thanks, will do . Dropping by the dealer today to grab some stuff out of the truck and will ask him to put this in the notes.

Thank you for sharing your story. As long as we keep documenting these issues on the forum, then if we have to we can bring them to the appropriate channels when needed (Ford, NHTSA,etc). Love the truck but cats out of warranty aren't cheap. I read somewhere about bad coil packs with a bad ground and a backed up coil supplier in another thread, so it sounds like some pieces of the puzzle are starting to fall into place.

All this being said, my dealer has been very helpful, and respectful so a somewhat painful process has been ok.......so far.

This sounds like it is related to the miss fire (shudder) in 6th when going up a slight grade. I have this issue and my dealer is working on resolving the problem with 3 trucks. I've had one coil pack changed already and suspect that is has gone again due to a possible grounding issue. My dealer is staying on top of this issue and keeping me posted as to a fix so I can bring my truck in for the repairs.

+1 This is the exact same thing I had. Except it took 2 days for the CEL to stay on. I think it was around 3500 miles. I don't remember if it was the Rt or Lt cat.
Also replaced cat and have had no problems.
At the time their was a back order on the cats. It took like 10 days to get it replaced. I thought the back order may have been due to lots of problems but have no reasoning for this.

My brand new 2011 xlt with ecoboost 1600 miles on it,has a check engine light on p0430 code. Brought it to the dealer sat. They said they are gonna replace the cat, bank 2 spark plugs and coil. but they dont have them in stock they will need to order them monday. They are going to call Ford Monday to verify the problem, hopfully it won't take long to get the parts but at least I'm still driving my truck. He never said if it was the plugs or coil that caused this problem but I would think it would be a precausionary thing to do both?

This was a previous post I had. The dealer did replace cat. 3 coils and 3 spark plugs can't remember which bank but I to had the same thing happen when passing a couple of days before my check engine light came on. truck fell on its face no power but I let off it and came back on to it had power back cel light was flashing then went out. Probably alot more people this has happened to just don't realize it yet.

You guys think that several of these issues could be inter-related? Reading about the 55-60 mph shudder that appears to be caused by severe missing, could this cause the cats/etc to clog causing the issues that are being described above and maybe even poorer fuel economy?

I do not have any loss of power/cat/flashing CEL issues yet, but do have the miss at 55-60 mph. Truck has 7000 miles on it and just wondering if by having this miss for quite a while if it has screwed a bunch of other crap up that could lead to some of the issues above?

I picked up my truck last week. They replaced left cat. I had them check mode 6,etc. The tech was really helpful and we chatted for over an hour. He said he couldn't find anything wrong with the coils or sparkplugs and no codes for either. He did agree that something up stream had caused the cat failure, but had no codes so not sure what direction to go in. He said he visually inspected the cat and said it didn't look bad, but that it really should be cut apart for inspection and Ford wanted the cat sent back to them in one piece.
On another note, he asked me about the shudder. I said I had heard about it,but did not have it. He said I would probably end up with it, but that Ford is very aware of it and is working on a solution for it and a TSB is forthcoming. He did not say if the 2 issues were related.
So far the truck is running normally. I will be towing with it again in the next few weeks and doing some long trips,so I will see if the problem shows up again.
