Lets hear about those 3.7L's

the dealership could do it. They would likely charge a half hour of shop rate though. In the mean time adjust your miles driven by the percentage your tires are out which is roughly 6%. Math isnt my strong suit but if you drive 200 miles youve really done 212 miles. That will show you a more accurate fuel economy reading. Unless previous owner had a tuner on it, he probably did not compensate for tire size.
Ya no tuner that i can find or know of, i would like to put a tune on it though. What would u recommend?

Crotchety Old Man
My step brother works at ford and will eventually do it. I'm just trying to figure out if my truck was broken or not and have been bugging the crap out of him with questions so I'm trying to get some good info from fellow ford fans. I had a 2003 f250 2wd that i loved but had to give up for the family. It was single cab 5.4 and a beast.

I run an SCT x4 tuner with just the off the shelf tune for 87 octane. Not huge gains in power (i think dyno chart is like 8 hp or something) but it cleans up the shifting of transmission, and allows changes for tire sizes etc.

U may be wrapping the pumpkin some with the bigger tires.

35" Nitto Terra Grapplers
i have 35" Nittos on my 3.7 and I changed the axel to 4.?? Something to compensate for the speedometer and power. I get 15.1 mpg. Also did some other changes, CAI and such. I am happy with the MPG and the looks. Pictures are posted in my profile.

It must be the tune, i need to put a tune on mine anf have it adjusted for the bigger tire. It hasn't been changed since they put the big tires on. Yesterday i did the speed test. Used an app on my phone got on the hwy set my cruise at 70 turned on the app and it said i was doing between 73 and 74.

So Wayne did you ever get a tuner and correct tire size?

Bought my used 2013 f-150 base model reg cab 8' bed 3.7L from Enterprise lease in 2015 w 50k miles, and have since put 12k miles on it, including some interstate highway trips.
Best truck I've ever had out of many over the decades.
Gas here in California is crummy. Out of state it gets the EPA 17/23 mpg numbers, but I lose one or more mpg here at home.
Towing light utility trailers cuts the mpg as expected, but it's very comfortable even with stock fabric seats, roll up crank windows, and no cruise control.
I've gone to Seattle hauling my youngest's furniture and stuff, and run unladen to Denver and back, etc.
The performance is great. It's got pep, and cruises any speed I like. Naturally mileage suffers above 65 mph but I'm still satisfied.
I have a small teardrop trailer I look forward to using this summer. In the past my '85 4-banger Ranger did fine. I doubt this will even feel it back there.
Spent a good part of my working life is various 3/4 ton work pickups: everything from Dodges, Chevies, and International (4X4), as well as some compact foreign and domestic stuff.
This thread has been an informative read. Thank you all. I hadn't even realized it had variable valve timing though I knew it was four valve per.
Certainly performs well and seems as efficient enough as well.

Cat back exhaust system
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask this but I need suggestions on a cat back exhaust system for my 2012 Ford F-150 extended cab 3.7L. I want an aggressive sound to the exhaust, nothing ricer.
I don't like the dual exit exhaust, I'm a fan of the rear single or dual side exit.
Should I get a Flow 40 muffler with custom pipes or should I get a magnaflow kit and swap the muffled for a flowmaster? My mechanic says $150 install if I bring him my own kit. I'm a girl by the way so please don't be mean.
