Tracy has shown the results the cans. People on here have taken the full steps in cleaning the intake and valves before the catch can install. I have sea-foamed everything before my catch can install. I have seen the stuff that comes out of this catch can and I haves seen the stuff in the bottom of my intercooler when I put my charge pipe on, they are the same thing. In liquid form they may not look like it but I dumped the catch can contents in to my small oil pan (for catching the filter oil when doing changes) and when everything evaporated off, it looked EXACTLY like the crud that I had in the bottom of my intake tube.
I could post pictures (and I still may) comparing the contents of the catch can and the stuff in the intake tube but someone acting like they know it all would just argue it.

This thread has been very interesting...and a little disturbing too. I own a '12 FX4 Eco-Screw and have been contemplating this mod for a few weeks now. Since my truck only has 15k miles, I plan on keeping it for quite a while longer. I ordered UPR catch cans for both the passenger and driver's side from Stage 3 Motorsports. Their prices were lower than UPR's site as well as free shipping. I also added a $15 additional discount from an on-line coupon code that I found.
I was very impressed when I received an email from Stage 3 only three hours after my order was placed informing me the items had been shipped. A query of the tracking number revealed expected delivery to my Maryland home by Friday. Wow.
I'll be taking some pics of the install. I've also been a Seafoam user in all of my other vehicles over the years but never thought of using it in the FX4 yet. I'll be cleaning out the induction system this weekend. I suppose I should pull the CAC as well for an inspection and cleaning since it's never been apart. Hope that isn't too difficult.

I have no doubt the catch can is beneficial to the intake and valves. No doubt about it. I'm still skeptical the slime is a major contributor to the condensation issues, but I will grant that it is more likely than I originally thought.

I have the catch can install but didn't for the 1st 8500 miles. I will be installing a Bell Intercooler soon. This might a bet a good comparison of what accumulates in 8500 miles before and after.

I was changing the oil at 4:30am when it was 5 deg F out so I could go to work LOL
On the 13's you have to use the PCV line on the drivers side immediately post TB. On the 11's you could use the brake boost line, I think the 12's you still can but double check.

I'm not an eco hater, I'm an eco boost owner who'd like to refrain from scattering my engine over what is potentially an easy fix. I'm also not jumping to conclusions, I'm just stating my theory based on my 30 plus years of race engine experience combined with what I know and have researched since buying my ecoscrew. I would love to have definitive proof to show you and to confirm my theory but I don't have it and never claimed to.
Calling people names won't help us in our quest for answers, especially when you have no idea of their knowledge or abilities. That's jumping to conclusions.
I like your idea of a test and what would be even better would be a two truck test using two new ecos. Equip one with cans and leave one stock and torture both. Considering the cost of that test, I doubt anyone but Ford could pull it off, but if my lotto numbers align, I'll look you up and we'll have some fun with a couple of new eco's.

And careful what assumptions you make, I am a mechanical engineer in the diesel industry so I have quite a bit of knowledge as well.
Yes, ideally having two new ecos run one with catch can and one without would be great. We may be able to look at averages though, if enough people were to take pictures of their valves at a designated mileage.
Anyone with 50 or 100k miles want to take some pics of their valves?

Just shy of 68k. Runs on Amsoil and 91 octane! If you want to screw around and do a 50 or 100k test, go ahead. But by the time you come to the conclusion that a catch can is a good idea, the damage is done! Seems like a no brainier, and cheap insurance to me?
