HFG - It's a bummer to hear that your problem is so certain in those 1/1 conditions.

I'd like to say I know my EB truck that well but he is like a crazy aunt in the closet: one tank of gas gets me 17 mpg, the next 19.5 with no real glaring reason for doing this.

One day to the next the truck shifts differently - really tight, then smooth as a baby's rear.

Because I nail him daily, he is always real reliable there - full throttle 0 - 60 runs yield basically the same results: same shift points, same recovery from the torque management etc. Pretty repeatable engine here in Houston.

I drive regularly from Houston to San Marcos to see my father, and in the winter, when it's raining on the way, I make sure to punch the thing when it is safe to and so far this has stopped the "problem" from happening.

It has only happened once:same 1/1 conditions as you, I was hyper miling using cruise control all the way from Houston to Lulling. Pulled on highway 80, nailed the throttle and she strangled for wind for about 5 seconds before finally (and lazily) pulling the RPM's up to shift point. Ran like absolute sh*t. As I pondered this I got to thinking about how ridiculous it was hyper miling a pickup truck.

It had eased up raining so I changed my route and went to Dad's place by way of 21 to 150 to Kyle and then back door into San Marcos by way of Wimberley. This gave me and the truck "quality time" together where gas mileage was NOT part of the plan. Dropped my lovely hyper miled 17.8 mpg reading to 15, and in the course of about 30 miles I beat the thing to death. Every time I could, I floored it and let it span the tach. When I parked at the old man's house I had a new truck again. On the way back I took 21 to 290 and flogged her within an inch of her life. With everything properly blown out, she ran better than new.

Since this little experience, I have blown off any aspirations of a high mileage truck; no, what I have is a high performance truck with a 213 cu in engine that makes 365 horse power that does it's best when it's being worked. Sometimes it's a drag having to blow the guts out of the thing ( I try to spank it both going and coming to work), but it's a fact I live with. I am pretty sure this keeps any condensate sucked out of the IC.

Had I bought a 5.0 all this wouldn't be necessary - just drive it like any ordinary vehicle and it does what you tell it to do without all this crazy aunt in the closet nonsense. On my next truck, will I get the 5.0? If Ford will Ecoboost it, yeah. I probably will. I am a sick man......

Live in a suburb of houston. Commute daily to houston and often to west texas. Never had any sort of studder shudder or shake. Lot of my buddies have these trucks as well, only issue i know of is 1 had a torque converter failure.

So far its been a great truck. 5 star tuning made it even better!
