Engine Swap: Eco to 6.2
#31
Still a hell of a lot cheaper than a new engine plus the fabrication and labor required to install it.

At 103k miles I have turbos that sound like angry hamsters and I'm starting to get a gnarly engine sound, the type that requires a tear down. With as much as it will cost to tear down, repair, and buy new turbos I figure I might as well buy a fresh engine. That being said I'm not too interested in buying another Eco with my first experience being what it is.
I know this will cost money, but to replace the whole truck I'm going to have to ink a 20k check between negative equity and money down for a new one and even then I'll be in more debt than I am now. I love my truck and would rather just spend money making it into something I want.
Local dealers aren't interested. One even told me it is "impossible". So looking for a capable shop.

Regardless, it isn't impossible they are just telling you that to try to sell you a truck. The different F150 variants all have the same frames/cabs/engine compartments across all engines so I doubt there is any 'fabrication' involved. You could make it work but, IMO, it isn't worth the time/money. The only reason SDHQ went through all the hassle was because they wanted to replicate a Raptor which only came in a SCAB shortbed. Had they opted for a SCAB with a 6.5' bed they could have just swapped engines.

This.
IMO, the options look like this.
1. Repair the turbos (if its actually the issue) the dealer might not be able but I know they can bc people have been doing mods. There are parts, just maybe not at the dealer. A couple people to talk to is morkin designs or mike aka mtxpert...mike would be first. He had turbos built for his flex. (Different eco but I bet the shop he used can figure it out)
2. New turbos, you could by some junkyard ones. Car-part.com has them for like 300 a piece or new for 500 from tasca.
3. Replace engine. Car-part has whole engines for 5k.
4. Attempt the swap. Now, I'm sure it can be done but your best bet is buy a wrecked 6.2 low mileage truck. Bc your gonna need the pcm and harness plus some fuel system parts not to mention motor mounts, the cat section of the exhaust and the list goes on.

honestly, a swap would be the utmost PITA I've seen attempted on these trucks.....ever. Unless we see major problems with the factory turbos trashing themselves with miles......this thread presents itself as TROLLS-VILLLE. Anyone else?

If you had 40k troubled miles, wouldn't you be a tad bit frustrated??

I wouldn't even consider a swap over just the turbo's. It's this other gnarly sound coming from deep within the motor that gives me nightmares of more $$$ heading out the window in the near future. Between 3 dealers, I've yet to find anyone who truly is educated with these motors. A tear down would be like a bad science experiment on my dime at shop rate.
