Ecoboost vs. cold weather

The heater is a accessory that you specifically have to option for. Many dealers up here order them, but honestly you really don't need one. The last vehicle I had a heater on was my diesel, but then I was heating batteries, the block, the fuel pump, etc. These things pull a lot of power, so you'll want to use a timer. It only has to run a couple of hours to get things hot.

I thought I heard they put them standard on all northern vehicles from a certain line up.

They do, I was messing around on Fords website the other day to build a super duty and they block heater comes standard on a bunch of Norther states (and I assume standard means the price is already added in for you )

Mine doesn't have a block heater up here in Maine.

I'd swear that when I was building my 2011 that I could order the truck without the heater. That said, Ford just confirmed what you said, in AK, MN, ND, SD, MT, WI and WY the heater is STANDARD.
