No, no exhaust leak. Dealer diagnosed it as 'piston slap' on #2 cylinder. Want $9500 for new motor or about $5000 to rebuild the one cylinder. Ridiculous. I maintain my vehicle religiously. I have to. I travel 5,000 miles per month with it- I depend on it. Not sure what Ford is going to do, if anything. This is my 8th new Ford truck since 1995 and my third F-150. First and last with Ecoboost. This is unacceptable. I don't care how minute the failure rate is, for them to charge $40k plus for these trucks and to not stand behind their product is unacceptable. If I mistreated the vehicle or did not maintain it, I'd just take it on the chin and learn from it. However, this is all mechanical or design defect and that should not fall on the consumer to suffer. I'll keep you guys posted as to what happens from here.

I know on a certain FB page a bunch of people got their engines replaced with used low mileage ones for around 5-8k installed. Might be an option to call a wrecker anyways.

Not meaning anything by this, as I maintain my vehicles religiously as well. But there is no way I would go 10,000 miles between oil changes with these Ecoboost engines due to the known fuel in oil dilution problem. I run Amsoil in my truck and even with that it's 5,000 miles, and has been since day one (now has 82k miles). I also drive quite a bit for work at around 3,000 miles a month. I hope you can get it figured out, but that does not sound good at all.

Default Ecoboost owners who have had engines replaced

Yeah I would be rightfully so paranoid. If you werent hard on the engine and there was no tuner etc. then thats pretty sketchy.

I know what you mean by the intervals, but it's something I've done for over a year and never had an issue. My current disaster does not appear to be an oil issue. Nothing is seized or even broken. The cylinder walls aren't even scarred. When I was at the dealer yesterday, I took a picture of the head with the valve cover removed and the head looked brand new. Had nice golden oil all over it. The dealer can't even give me an explanation for this. I normally use Pennzoil Platinum but I switched to Amsoil this last oil change before this happened. Just about every one of these synthetic oil producers advertise 10k mile intervals or better. I think if you check it regularly and it isn't low or abnormally dirty, why change it more often than necessary? Now if I can get a clear and definitive determination that this was due to my long oil change intervals, I will certainly change my attitude. One other thing that was in an engineering magazine was this article that spoke about the oil life percentage indicator in vehicles these days. The 'oil life percentage' really is a good thing to consider when it comes to oil change intervals, too. It takes into consideration how many cold starts there are, RPM changes, shift changes, speeds, a whole myriad of information to determine when oil is needed to be changed. At 10,000 miles, mine has been right about 20%.

I'm guessing the piston skirt broke, it's not the first time this has happened.

well, I had my new truck for about three months. I bought a f150 v6 eco boost was a demo truck with 8000 km, and we just left for holidays and pulling our camper and all of a sudden we had no power, then the engine light was on and the dealership is putting a brand new engine in. I totally am pissed and worried about the safety of my kids, this happened as we pulled into a small town thank god not on the highway. I am even more pissed the dealership will only give 27000 for the truck and we still owe 41000, I understande u loose money but hell shouldn't be that much and its not like we just want to trade it in cause we don't like it. I don't even want to buy a ford anymore. I know **** happens sometimes but seems to be a lot of issues with ecoboost.

Glad to read you and your family are safe, THX1138. Please PM your name, VIN, dealer, and best daytime phone number; I'm going to look into this and see how I can assist.

We went to another dealership, today to talk to see what they could do for us, and we ended up buying a brand new 2015. Not that much better of a deal there but did give us more and I really liked the dealership and our sales guy. I was really pissed that the demo truck we bought was in the shop two times before we got it and had a lot of work done to the engine. I don't know why they lied to us and didn't tell us that from the start and I just said screw it and bought the truck from the other dealership. We went back and told them that we bought another truck and only then were they concerned and wanted to help, well its too late for that they had the truck more then a week and we asked and they kept saying that's all they could do, the trust is totally gone with these guys, I really liked our original sales lady I just hope she didn't know that it was in for a lot repair before we bought it. Pretty sad that they new this truck had major issues and didn't care and did nothing about it. I would of been extremely happy if I walked in there and the manager said sorry to hear your having a big problem with truck go out and pick a new one and well take care of it. I know I would end up paying a little more money cause its a 2015 but hell Im sure they could did better.

But I may be biased because I owned one of the first 2011 3.5 Eco's to roll off the assembly line and didn't have a single issue in the 3.5 years that I owned it.
I agree 100% with what your saying. Just traded my 11 Eco in with 70,000 on it for a 14 leftover with the 5.0. It would have been another Eco if it was in truck, but it's a 5.0. Not and issue with the Eco at all traded with OE brakes put spark plugs when I tuned it.
I had stopped coming to this forum for a while even though my truck was running perfect. I was becoming paranoid about my truck for no reason at all. This is the worst forum for problems. I'm a premium business sponsor on iatn and hear nothing on Ecoboost or 5.0 engine problems, mostly 5.4 spark plugs before 09.
If we base our truck purchase on any forum we would all be walking or taking public transit because every manufacturer has a percentage of failures.
