What is it about the torque curves between the 3.5 and 6.2 that would make you think the 6.2 WOULDN'T be downshifting as much as the 3.5?

I had to go to Tennessee this weekend to visit my dad . Should have thought of recording the mileage earlier but I had alot on my mind . I did set it up from Murfreeboro TN to Jacksonville FL . This was my trip I pulled over at a station off of I-10 because Im not familiar with the area and wasnt sure if there was another exit with a station close by but either way I was very happy and impressed considering I had the cruise control on 75 to 80 most of the way.

And I would too. The kind of numbers I saw for three months when it was new.

Question: Do you have rough idle? Really rough on cold start and periodically rough when warm?

Yeah, don't love that though
We pay a mint up here for gas.

Mine idles a little rough but hardly noticeable.
I also have the occasional 55 shudder and occasionally I have soot on the tailpipe.
What I've found, is that all of those are exaggerated if I baby the truck for extended periods or run crappy 87 octane.
I run 89 octane all the time now and I spool up those turbos very frequently ;-)

I think it is important to romp on it a little bit every few days. It was one of those things that I thought happened but I was only half paying attention, but I gunned in on the on ramp onto the freeway a couple days ago and swear it let out a big puff of smoke when I did. Gonna try and pay more attention the next time I drive it easy for a while then romp on it, cause I don't think it should be throwing smoke. My eyes could have been playing tricks on me, but like I said it caught me off guard and I just caught a glimpse in the side mirror.

What is it about the torque curves between the 3.5 and 6.2 that would make you think the 6.2 WOULDN'T be downshifting as much as the 3.5?

Its's called a "V8" it has an extra 2 cylinders, or 1/3 more of an engine under the hood which allow it work a lot less to produce the same results using the same or less fuel to do it!

Torque has nothing to do with it, sure it can pull as much as they have the same torque rating, but which one do you think is working harder, COME ON use ur head! its common sense!, not a lot of that around theses days!

Why do you think the mileage swings up and down so much, like I said before, like a yo yo! because its still just a DANG V6!

Did Mike Rowe ever do the mileage comparision between the new 5.0 and this EcoBoost like they said he was going to do pulling the same load in the same conditions, probably not as the 5.0 or 6.2 probably gets way better mileage in real life while working, not for a 1/4 mile or so when you reset the darn thing while your driving empty! over a tank or 2, better yet, over the life time mileage, period!

I guess how many use a truck for a truck anymore either! as I have a truck, even empty I have a truck cap, and a 3/4" 3pce under rail screwless wood box liner (about 3 sheets) with full length storage on each side fully stocked with chains 3/8" 6' wire cables, come-along with Cable clamps, booster cables, tongue, on top of the spray in liner that I had done, an extra 5 or 600lbs or so all the time, so I can abuse the box with out hurting it, and use it as a truck when I need to, its a truck, not a car!

I luv the truck, just not the power plant! should of looked for a Platinum with a 6.2
