Thanks for the info. I would expect the 4.10 to be worse. Iam trying to decide between the ratios for the truck. The ecoboost is a little different engine so I was wondering if the lower gear ratio may not hurt it as much. You may not need as much boost at highway speeds even though the engine is running faster.

I don't regret opting for the 4.10 at all. I know I have the extra oomph when I pull something and I like having the extra torque in the low end as that's where I do most of my driving. Plus I'm adding bigger tires here shortly and that will help significantly. Combined with the extra 40ft.lbs of torque coming from the AIRAID intake, it's a nice kick in the pants.

Just went to a wedding on the other side of the state. Did it all in one tank, ended at 22.7, and had 567 miles on one tank! 6.5 box, 3.31, 4x4, Screw. But on the other hand went on a bow hunting trip a month ago, ATV in the back, 3 buddies and gear prob around 3,000 extra lbs and avg 18.7 on the same trip so I guess each 1000 lbs means ~1 less MPG. I'm saying roughly 1mpg cause the atv casued wind resistance.

Crew cab, 6.5" bed, 3.31 gears, 17" wheels and 4x4 truck. About 750 miles on the truck averaging around 21mpg mixed driving. I have about 350 miles until empty with 175 miles on this tank already. Adding an Access soft tonneau next week so hope to get more out of it. Loving the truck!

'11 XLT CC, 5.5' bed, 4x4 3.73 Electronic Locker

I have just over 1500 miles on the truck. My average has been 15.5 over all 1500 miles. I have seen some tanks as high as 16, and some as low as 15, so 15.5 is my number. My commute is not your average commute, it is 2 miles of stop lights, followed by merging onto the freeway, traveling less than one mile, then merging onto another freeway, traveling less than one mile, then 2 more miles of stop lights, and I'm at work. To put it into perspective, my 2011 Ford Taurus (not SHO) rated at 28 MPG Highway, gets 17 on this drive, and my wife's 2007 Ford Edge, rated at 24 MPG gets 14 on this drive, so all in all, I am pleased as punch to be getting 15.5 in this beast of a truck!!!

'11 fx4 scab 3.73 6.5' bed.

My truck sucks. Gets the advertised 15 city but can't get over 18 onthe highway. That is with cruise ON at only 60 mph on flat roads. That's also with me driving like a granny.

Don't feel bad...I have the same results as you on the same setup, except I have the 4.10 gears. How many miles do you have? I'm really hoping that this changes once I hit 3000 miles.

That is more or less what I am seeing.... I did have a problem with the trans, but a re-flash seem to have fixed it.

I think the truck will get around 15mpg around town and 17-19 on HWY in ideal conditions and granny driving. At 70MPH mine is getting about 17MPG period. At 60MPH it is right at 18-19MPG. I do not think it will magically get 20-21mpg after 3000 miles. New engines/Trans are machined to much better tolerances than in the past and the break in period is NOT going to be that much different.

IMHO, some of these MPG number seem unrealistic under normal driving conditions.....

I would agree that there's no magical break in period number per se, but what I've read is that the computer reprograms some tune parameters at 3k miles that increases the fuel economy after this "break-in" period. Don't know how true or not this is, lots of debate and opinions on it so I'm just waiting to see for myself. I'm about half way there...
