We've got 10 tractors, 11 loaders, 6 trucks and all diesel. As long as you keep air filters clean and oil changed on time they'll outlast everything else

Not talking about tractors and loaders.........oil change and filters and DEF fluid in the newer model diesel engines are very expensive compared to gas burners.....not even adding in extra cost for diesel fuel compared to gasoline....that's bad enough............gas burners are much...much better for the average driver.

I'm just saying that these are running in super heavy duty applications and last forever. I know all about DEF with so much of the farm equipment using it now and it's a PITA. With a smaller diesel engine it would drop maintenance costs quite a bit more. 6 injectors vs 8 and less oil every change. If you don't want the maintenance then don't buy it. Just my $.02.

Your right......ain't buying a diesel truck of any kind.....1/2 ton that is.....3/4 and up sure............farm tractor....heavy equipment......absolutely........just not worth it to me in a 1/2 ton truck.

For me I don't need the 3/4 ton size because I don't pull a trailer very often. But I do need the bed space and the ability to haul a trailer if I need to. The 5.4 and EB and all the other engines are great but I think the empty and loded mileage with a small diesel would outweigh the cons by a long shot. People are just scared of them and the emissions stuff drags them down.

I just bought an Ecoboost 2 weeks ago traded a 5.0L ........don't get me wrong.....loved the 5.0.....its one hell of a great engine...............BUT....the ECO is very diesel like......makes power very low in the rpm range.....and pulls like a freight train.....so as long as FORD makes a motor like the ECOBOOST......i'll be just fine.

I am siding with XtraLargetall, I too would like an actual diesel in a smaller truck or an f150. When i sit here and see a TDI VW pulling 40-50mpg and they run easily 400,000 miles with just basic maint., made a believer out of me. On top of that i have been reading where a lot of those guys are driving 10,000-20,000 miles between oil changes and the oil is cleaner than my 3,000 mile change with my 5.4L. I have plans to possibly do a 4 cylinder cummins swap( 4bt) into my 98 f250 LD. I do a lot of lighter loads in my truck where a smaller truck just wouldn't work and a super duty is to big. A little glance at a pretty close comparison... We have two work trucks both f250 super duty, both reg. cab, 8' beds, 2 wheel drive, automatic, one has the 7.3L diesel and one has 5.4L gasser, same scheduled main. the 150 point check up(nothing overlooked). To this day the 7.3L still trucking a long with the transmission on its way out. While the 5.4L motor gave up on us at 220,000 miles. Both trucks were put through the ringer lots of hard miles. A week ago the 7.3L rolled 400,000. Now, granted the 7.3L is a beast so maybe the comparison is skewed? Just shows how much better a diesel can be. It also got roughly 5-7mpg more than the 5.4L.

It's out there. Like I said, check out the VW Amorok. A mid-sized pickup with VW proven TDI technology, reasonable towing capabilities, and up to 40 mpg.

You just won't see it here, because the price puts it up against the F150, and Americans' disposition against diesel is still too strong. If more people planned to keep their cars longer, things might change more. Personally, I would feel compelled to buy a VW pickup truck. I've had 5 VW's and loved every one of them. They are solid, reliable, last forever, and are fun to drive(especially if you drive aggressively).

Funny thing; I brought my VW into the shop yesterday for a once over. I told the guys I'm probably trading it (on my new F150) and the response was basically, "That's too bad, it's only 12 years old!" You don't hear that about most cars.

Euro diesels would not pass emissions here. Thank a democrat next time you see one.
