Well truck started missing again about 2 weeks ago. Engine did pull a misfire code for #3 cylinder. I replaced spark plug due to carbon tracking and this plug only had about 5k on it. This didn't fix problem so I replace ignition coil to this cylinder. It seamed to work for a about a day. Now truck is missing again but hasn't thrown a code yet. I'm getting frustrated. I have plugs with 5k on them and 4 of the 6 ignition coils have been replaced and have less than 10k on them. Truck has only has 60k. Shouldn't coils last longer than 60k?!?! My truck was built 01/11 so it has a different coil than trucks built in 03/11. Maybe these coil weren't any good? At $90 a piece it has been pricey for an item that I think should last 100k. Has anyone had the same problem or does anyone have any suggestions?

I guess I will replace the last 2 coils and hope it fixes it?

First, I had exhaust manifold replaced then 3 coils replaced , then timing chain and tensioner was replace, next was plugs, now I have replaced another coil and one plug. And still having misfire problems. What will be next??? And this truck only has 60k!!!

I think after these last 2 coils I'm done!!!!!!!
No more. I loved the truck the firts 20k miles but it has went to crap since. For a $50,000 truck I expected a little more reliability!!!!

These plugs are really touchy on installation torque and will be damaged if very tight. Thas the problem with them other than gap opening. There is a really nice magnetic plug wrench and extension assembly on another thread. Gear wrench #80546 at Amazon.

Sounds like the plugs were tightened too much and have cracked.

I think it's 11 ft/lbs, barely snug. I usually just forgo the torque wrench and grab the ratchet head with the palm of my hand. Just snug them down that way, I've never had problems doing it that way. But by using the end of the wrench to turn you put much more force to work, besides running the risk of not staying aligned properly.

How do you check an ignition coil to see if it is good?
