Can you order and then cancel

You can cancel anytime with no penalties, just find a good dealer. I have ordered many vehicles and NEVER put a deposit down. I have also cancelled a couple orders for one reason or another and they do nothing. The dealership that I was dealing with never had a problem and the vehicles I ordered would be sold within a week every time.

As a dealer, if you order something that isn't super uncommon, and they would be able to sell once it comes in, you usually can get off the hook. Its the funky builds that only fit your needs, that it becomes a little bit sticky. I can't tell you how many Ecos we have sold, but lets say plenty, and I have NOT had ONE come back for this intercooler issue. The only common issues were the cats on the 11's, and the clicking from the drive line that still isn't solved. Fear not, I could drive whatever engine and Ford vehicle I want, and I BOUGHT a 12 Eco, and it is the perfect combo of power, luxury, and utility, and that is coming from a guy who hated Ford until a couple years ago...

As for clubsfit comments on the cats, he obviously doesnt understand the root cause for the cats failing. If those were drivers side cats, it is absolutely related to the TSB for the condensation issue.
Sterlinggone is correct in his statement WHEN the Ecoboost is running good. I wouldnt recommend a family member buying an Eco in this part of the world, but I will be buying another one once the intercooler issue is worked out. It is nice driving a vehicle with the Ecoboost torque curve especially for guys that tow. No other 1/2 ton competes with the performance on the Eco.
Good luck OP. I'm sure the dealership would work with you because this is a common issue, hence the reason there have been 2 TSB's for it. Anyone who says otherwise just has their rose colored glasses on.

There's a poll on here regarding the Ecoboost engine. Of the people who took the time to submit replies, 9 have said they have significant issues with the engine. Of those 9, 6 said they would buy another Ecoboost. To me, that says an awful lot about how good that engine is, to have 2/3's of those willing to put up with the bad to get all the good that the Ecoboost provides.

And how many people who own an ecoboost engine on this website chose not to vote or didn't see the poll? The risk of getting a bad one is LOW. And do you know for certain if all of those 9 knew you could check another box?
But like another poster said, these trucks have 3 other engines to choose from. So choose one of them.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy an ECO-Boost, even though I live in an area that has alot of cool mornings with FOG which is where the condensation problem shows up (my Neighbors EB has this issue). Had I gotten the EB and had the issue I would have bought about 10$ in parts and installed an tiny 1/8" fitting and hose to where the water collects so a tiny amount of engine vacuum would be constantly keeping the Intercooler dry. BUT Ford gave me an extra 1000$ off a 5.0L so I got the 5.0L......
