Blackstone analysis back Eco Boost

THAT won't make him feel better! I still have my first sample sitting in a box somewhere as I never got around to mailing it. With almost 47K on my truck, maybe it is time to re-sample. My service rep sees the black bottle and says "sure, we'll do that."

While I like the comparisons my main concern is if a problem is brewing what other signs would/should I be looking for. I'm due for another oil change in 2500 miles and will send that in to be tested also. IF that comes back with high lead what course of action do I have as most dealerships are only code savy.

I understand your concern. The lead is extremely high for so new a motor. I would do oil analyses on all future changes so you have a record. Maybe it was a fluke at black stone or maybe your engine is eating itself.

I have done the Blackstone oil reports on my 2011 FX4 Ecoboost at every oil change so far. I use Motorcraft Synthetic 5W30 and change it at 3,000 mile intervals (3K interval because I'm seeing that after 3k miles my oil is already at a 5W20 viscosity due to fuel% in the oil)
I'm not sure if it's anything to be alarmed about, but your Lead number do look high compared to what I'm seeing. (Granted I'm changing at 3k interval)
Oil Change 1 (@ 2,445 miles): Lead - 0
Oil Change 2 (@ 5,538 miles): Lead - 1
Oil Change 3 (@ 8,550 miles): Lead - 1
Oil Change 4 (@ 11,499 miles): Lead - 3 (Mobile 1 Synthetic 5W30 used this time)

From the report, I'd be more inclined to say the lead is probably from the turbos. There have been catastrophic failures with some units and it will show up as lead in the oil. The turbos are supposed to have a water cooling that runs after the key is turned off. Yours may not be running long enough to cool the turbos down or it may not be running at all. I'm more surprised that Blackstone didn't point out the viscosity has sheared to a 20 oil. Noting that the fuel present is less than .5, which is a percentage of weight, not volume, it's being sheared tremendously. I would not suggest you run any oil in this engine longer than 5000 miles regardless of conventional or synthetic. Since you are apparently not showing any codes, I doubt a Ford tech will scope the engine for you unless you are paying. So what I would suggest is to ask Blackstone to rerun the analysis to make sure the number are correct and to substantiate the current report. I'd show both reports to the Service Manager and get his input on it at your dealer. Talk costs you nothing but you can diary the chat which is a legal document should it be needed later.
FWIW, I doubt its the main bearings considering they have a polymer based coating which would have showed up on this report as a silicone if it failed.

Trapper,
You have peaked my interest a lot! I just got back from SEMA and spent some time talking with Borg Turbos and the full race guys. During the discussion I asked what a bad turbo might be doing if its going bad. I started hearing a "hamster wheel" noise when I stomped on the gas, it would make this right after the turbos kicked in at 2K until about 3K, I get some black exhaust, and my lead numbers are high……all of these are "signs" of a possible issue.
I need to look in the turbo wheels and see if any major play is there. If the wheel is rubbing on the housing that might cause the lead? With NO codes thrown my ford dealership will be useless. I'm going to do another oil test with the present oil, which is near 3000 miles now.
I don't understand the oil sheer you speak of, will have to learn more.
Cheers,
GREG
