5.0L Oil Catch Can

Recently got my *new* revised UPR oil catch can. *A BIG THANK YOU! to USPS for mis-delivering, losing, and mis-routing the parcel so that it took 3 weeks to be delivered. Components:

Brass, chrome-plated line barbs *new*
Lid -revised-
Diffuser *new*Extension *new*
Bottom -revised-
Am currently looking for a mounting bracket to replace the original (though may have to fabricate my own). Thought being that the plastic radiator shroud will not support the *new*, -revised- catch can.Lid -revised-

NOTE: The extension and bottom hold a little more than 12oz.

If it pulls oil out of the bottom of that then I would just make a nice Thermos out of that one, cause there would be no hope for any of us

That diffuser is also a great improvement as well as the extension, add both of those and you will definitely see a difference in effectiveness. Remember, the size is not really to add to the amount it can hold (but is a benefit for sure) but it allows the flow through the can to slow to a velocity that prevents oil pull through, so don't look at it that way. Both of these additions (all made since RX came on here explaining the principals and design features that are critical for proper function) are excellent and have greatly improved the cans function. Can't criticize any of these efforts, as they benefit you all, the customers wanting better products. So even with a 5.0, 6.2, old 4.6 or 5.4, if your making this choice definitely opt for both those options to keep as much oil from passing through a can as possible. Thats why I suggest the cheap, simple test. Do it on the standard size, and then do it with the diffuser and extension and see for yourself the drastic difference. The new drain (1/4 turn ball valve similar to the RX now) will also make draining a breeze.
UPR may not like me, but the changes and revisions made are much better now and even with as nasty as the debates and attacks have been, I still have taken the honest road and acknowledge how much these have improved the can.
Now on to installing the RX can. Same installation for the 5.0 and 6.2 as it is the RX single valve that is used for NA applications. Same connection pints, but the RX can the center is always the inlet due to the design and the outer fitting the outlet. The difference is the RX cleanside separator is also recommended to deal with any clean side ingestion when running WOT. But it can be added to any other can if you already have invested in one.

Had a 2013 5.0 mustang with an air/oil sep can. Luckily I took it off before I traded it in and bought my MY 13'5.0 f150. Put it on a week after I bought the truck and catches just as much as the stang did! I didn't think I would get as much oil as my mustang because I don't drive my truck near as hard but it's just about the same. I believe it was a JLT bout $115. Uses ford connectors - fits like factory.

Put the JLT can on my 5.0 1800 miles ago. Haven't done any towing. Weather has been 40-70 degree range and I have about a 40 mile round trip commute each day.
Opened the can today and had at least 2 tbsps in it. These cans cans work well.

On the effectiveness of the other can, we have not tested the latest UPR revisions to see, but easy for anyone with one to....just pick up a cheap air compressor separator and install it between any can you have and the intake manifold vacuum port, and you can see if a can allows oil past, or does catch it all.
So all I can do is go by the principals that are crucial to an effective can, flow dynamics, Bernoulli effect, etc. so they have already met 1 critical area, and that is the internal volume. Looking at the new baffle that will definitely help as well but the final critical area is the distance from the outlet from the droplets falling from the baffle area. any less than 2" and smaller droplets will be sucked out, so that will require us testing the same as we have so many others.
Definite great improvements though so if compared to the JLT, there is no comparison. The UPR will far out-perform it now.
(Hard to post good reviews on a company that has been so hateful, but we post accurate info no matter what and they have made some great improvements so not going to deny them).
