Kind of an odd variation on the ever present 5.0l ticket noise, but after an oil change engine runs perfectly. As the oil "ages" (around 3k miles) it develops a tick that gets much worse towards 5k. This is the fourth oil change with this same pattern of behaviour.
After oil change the noise vanishes. Tick rate is about 240 ticks per minute at about 600rpm idle.
Anyone have any idea if that behaviour is significant? It's nice and quiet right now, once it starts ticking again I'm planning on taking it over to the shop for an opinion.

What oil and filter are you running? If your motor likes 3k mile changes, change it at 3k.

Been using Mobil 1 full synthetic almost exclusively, changing every 5k miles.
Took it to the dealer, they said it needs a new engine, $9000. Only has like 137k miles on it.
They have no idea what's wrong, just that it's an "internal engine noise."
This is some bullsh*t.
I'm willing to bet this is that "oblong cylinder" issue that has cropped up on Google. How did Ford manage to get away scott-free with selling trucks with a defective engine?

If I was you, I would change the oil every 3K and keep on trucking.
