i was never really worried because i know most of the time manufacturers under rate their limits. and this being the highest tow rated 6cyl motor and it rating to tow 5500-6100lbs that it was very capable of towing at minimum the advertised weight. there isn't too many vehicles that are heavier (cars) than my old classic 73. my car is about 3700-3800lbs. so i went over the max 5700 rating by a little bit. and i definately wasn't worried about this kind of weight because it has a TOW PACKAGE for being a 6cyl.
very happy with this motor. and not to mention, i got 17MPG towing going there and 16.5MPG on the way back. thats is freaking awesome numbers towing. hell my old 5.4 barely got over that dry.

Just like the pic, I have a full body f150 which most people call a screw or a super cab. It's a 2011 3.7 motor with he tow package n 3.73 gears. I believe ford states a 3.7 max tow weight is 6100. I almost pushed that weight limit to he max. P more than likely went over my config of 5700lbs.

From the Canadian brochure, the 3.7L only gets up to 6100# tow capacity with a regular cab, 4x2, 145" wheelbase and 3.73 axle ratio. All other configurations, including the 4x4's, SuperCab and SuperCrew are lower (typically 5500-5800#).
This is less than my Tacoma's 6500# tow capacity but still ok for my 4000# trailer.
But I was more interested in payload as my trailer has a 620# tongue weight, and we carry lots of stuff in the truck (people, cap, kayaks, bikes, and more). The Tacoma (1100# payload) was always way overloaded.
The 3.7L F150's payload (1600# in the SuperCab) was higher than the Tacoma's and would probably have been good enough. But I decided to go over the top with the 4x2, SCab, Ecoboost (2070# with Max Trailer). Could have gone to 2670# with the longer wheelbase and Max Payload package.
And why do people still call the F150 trucks "half-tons"?

I'm not sure why people still call F150's half tons. I also wonder why people still refer to tires as 10 ply, 8 ply, and so on.
I'm an idiot, I just realized I was reading the spec sheet wrong on my truck. The gvwr is 6900 lbs, not tow rating. My tow rating is 5800 lbs. Makes sense now.
The tow ratings for the 3.7 seem under rated. But so do the 5.0 tow ratings.

The F150 3.7L V6 seems very close in torque ratings to the Tacoma. It does have a 6spd auto but is also a 500# heavier truck. 5500-5800# seems reasonable to me.
