I had a buddy threaten CAMVAP to a dealer once over a rear diff failing just days after warranty. They fixes it without him having to file.
My predicament is that while there is a TSB for our issue my truck doesn't qualify because it's out less than 1 degree on timing (not the 6 they want).

Hundreds if not thousands of Ford owners KNOW my truck makes this noise bad... One of Ford's own techs used my video as his example for the problem.

Being that I walked into this vehicle via dealer misrepresentation I feel I have a strong case for arbitration if they don't fix it. In a week it will be 2 months.

What I meant by that example is that maybe mentioning CAMVAP to the dealership may help push things along.

Yeah, I hear you. If I don't hear back by Monday then I'll proceed with CAMVAP. I spoke with the dealer principal on Wednesday and it doesn't take that long to figure it out.

Did you notice the issue on the test drive before you bought it?

This issue only shows symptoms for a couple seconds at most at cold start up. And, usually only if it has sat for a while. Usually over night.

really?! No, it didn't. Had I been able to hear a cold start then maybe it would have exhibited the issue and I would have most definitely walked away.

Instead, when I arrived at the dealer the view the truck they had already moved it from the lot and into "detailing" before my arrival. They literally drove the truck into the sales lot in front of me. My opportunity to hear a cold start was gone. I was not familiar with this issue at the time, as the Ecoboost I traded in was a great truck and never displayed these symptoms.

It did exhibit the issue less than 16 hours later when I cold started the vehicle the next morning. Judging by the consistency at which my truck displays this issue (almost daily) I think it's safe to say the truck had this issue before I purchased it.

I certainly didn't stretch the timing chain in the 140km or so drive home.

I've got 18 pages of documentation now for CAMVAP that I'm just polishing off... I'll contact Hallmark Monday to tell them the news and if they aren't prepared to fix, CAMVAP it is.

Any Forum Members Interested in providing small written statements?

If any of you who have had this issue would like to provide me with a short paragraph or two that confirms the noise you had was the same as mine along with what your dealer did to diagnose and repair or not repair the issue.

Maybe include a Vin# too so Ford can't say you aren't real? Murdr? Cord? HemiHunter? SUVette? Anyone? It would probably be really helpful if you also explained how the issue came back after a short time.

Would anyone be interested in helping me out here? Your information would be kept confidential and shared only with the through the CAMVAP process if my complaint goes forward. You can PM it to me? If you had any important links, or other relevant information as this failure it would be wonderful!

Thanks!

There's a shop owner that has a car repair show on the radio here in the Cincinnati area. I just happened to hear him mention today about making sure you change your oil no more than 6,000 miles for synthetic and closer to 3k for conventional oil. We hear that all the time. No big news there. But along with that common advice, he threw in a mention of him seeing issues with timing chains being stretched due to poor lubrication. He cited the oil change issue as being partially to blame for that (people going something like 10k miles like the car manufacturers sometimes recommend these days. Anyway, frequent oil changes is nothing most of us haven't heard before (for good maintenance), but that's the first time I've heard a mechanic specifically mention being sure to keep up on the oil changes to help prevent timing chain stretch.

I think someone posted this video before, but not sure. To me, this engine looks dirtier than it should be and that oil looks rather varnished and dirty/black. I can't help but wonder if it really should be looking that dirty or if it does indeed look that bad even with oil changes at 5k miles using good synthetic oil. Every time I've looking into my valve cover in the past on my old truck, it looked nearly near inside and not varnished and dirty like you see in this video. Ford did issue a TSB for the timing chain stretch, yes...but I wonder if this might be also prevented with 5k oil changes using good synthetic oil? I guess we'd have to hear from people that have faithfully changed their oil at 5k miles (synthetic oil) to see if they have the timing chain stretch problem/noise too.

If anyone is interested I found a really great supporting article and diagrams that describe the "timing chain stretch" it's not Ecoboost specific though, but will be handy for me when illustrating the problems to the arbitrator.

The TSB documents state which warranties they are covered under. This one is eligible under the new vehicle and the emissions warranties so if you have either one valid for your jurisdiction you are covered. I'm just over my powertrain mileage limit so this will be covered by my emissions warranty.
