I just heard this noise from my truck this morning after sitting about 20 hours. I was walking out the door and heard the rattle when I used remote start. This is the first time I've heard it, but it really concerns me. It has 28K on the clock right now and I've been doing 5K mile oil change intervals with Pennzoil Platinum and Motorcraft filters.

I really love my F-150, and it's by far the nicest truck I've ever owned from a comfort and performance standpoint. The Ecoboost is truly an amazing engine in almost every respect. This is the first Ford I've owned, but hopefully this issue doesn't make me go back to Toyota. I really want to keep driving Fords, but I wish they would just get their stuff together.

I'll get a case escalated, Thews5; please send me a private message with your full name, VIN, servicing dealership, and best daytime contact number. I'll get started right away!

I suggest having your local dealer take a look at your truck, KP Texan; they'll be able to diagnose this and provide the best next steps. Feel free to use this to get started.

Let me know how it goes; I'll be keeping an eye out for an update!

Just throwing it out there...Fords TSB does not replace the tensioner. My dealer replaced the chain and the tensioner, stating oil is seeping through the tensioner itself. I have not heard the rattle since last Fall...my chain was replaced in early March. Thought maybe the extreme cold had made it go quiet and maybe it would reappear in the Spring, but so far no more noise. If you get the dealer to replace the chain, you may as well pay out of pocket to do the tensioner if Ford won't replace it.

Don't panic yet, could just be a one time fluke.
My Truck has made the noise one time...about 3 months ago.

If your truck is running good and the fuel mileage is normal, just keep driving it.

Anyone notice their truck idle a little rough as a symptom of this cam timing issue? My idle might fluctuate 50 rpm just around 500-600 rpm. The plugs are okay. I still haven't got a PO016 code yet. And it actually feels rough and stumbles a touch shakes the truck a little. I heard that the cam phasers cropping out on the old motors could cause this.

I'd say yes the idle was rough with the loose chain. They said at idle my oil pressure was low

It didn't make the noise yesterday when I left for lunch (sat 5 hours), left work (sat 4 hours), or this morning when I left the house (sat 12 hours). Definitely, keeping my fingers crossed that it's just a fluke!

Yes the idle on my truck was rougher. It got better after they replaced the chain and then got worse again as the noise came back. Not empirical evidence but just my observation.

I had the same experience with mine as well. With a new chain you really notice the difference because you don't realize just how rough the engine had become.
