New Exhaust
I have a 2000 F150. It's a 4.6 liter 2WD. I want to do some upgrades to the truck. The first thing I was thinking about is a new exhaust system. The exhaust that came with it has no rumble at all. I was thinking about either the Borla cat back exhaust or the Flowmaster force 2 systems. I had a couple of questions before I decide what I want.
1. I had a friend that had some flowmasters installed. He said that this caused his service engine light to stay on. Is this the case? I would rather not have the service engine light always on.
2. Are there any other mods that I could do to the truck to get the full hp and torque from the new exhaust systems?
3. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good exhaust system. I can't weld, but I can bolt one one I'm sure.
Thanks for any help.

Either in catback shouldnt make the engine light come on, remove the cat and ya.. perhaps. Both are good systems, personally i'd go with the flowmaster... Only better thing than good exhaust is good intake, look into that.

a catback exhaust should not make the check engine light come on. everything after the cat is unnecesary so there is no reason for it to come on. Technically the exhust after headers is unnecessary for the engine to run. so no reason for the light to come however putting on an intake might make the check engine light come on for a lil time while the computer updates to the new airflow into the engine. Exhaust is a good first mod ot ur truck after that put on an intake system or else all u r doing is sending the same amount of air out of a better tube. If you add an intake you will bring more air in and more air out. Adding the intake will also make the truck sound better.

With our 4.6L and Flowmaster, I have read alot of people having low end power loss from loss of back pressure with the muffler. That's why I kinda leaned towards Magnaflow. Trust me, theres no sound I like better than flowmaster's, but I have no regrets from my Maggie...

I have heard that some exhaust systems will cause a loss in power. I had a 4.6 in my 2002 F150 and I put the dual Flowmaster set up on it. It was a bolt on kit I did at home, easy to do yourself. I don't know if it was a 40 or 50 series muffler. I also didn't notice any power difference with it. Of course I didn't do any kind of intake. It was pretty quiet when I first installed it for the first few months. The sound did get better in time but never was as load as I wanted. It sounded stock at ideal but would get load at wide open throttle. I would have liked to have heard the Magnaflow on my truck, I have heard good things about there systems.
