Default Hardwired radar dectector into Mirror Power

Never liked running the power cord down from the radar detector to get power so today I tapped into the power to the auto darking mirror power.
Pin 1 + Pin 2 -

Works great, but be aware, the power to the mirror goes off when in reverse, so the radar detector will cycle power, when you shift from park past reverse and into drive.

Also if anyone ever needs a pin-out of any connector in an 08 F-150 let me know I have the complete electrical manual.

So, where did you mount the radar detector? I have never liked running the power wire to the power outlet. Im just glad I dont smoke and have both the cigarette and power outlets. And the cord on my new detector is the coil type, so its a pretty short cord. I just have mine right under the rearview mirror. Which is probably illegal.

And thats funny about it turning on and off when you shift.

Counldn't you tap into the power for the map lights and avoid the cycling of the radar detector?

I really need to do this for my radar detector and GPS because I'm tired of the wires running all over the place.

Could have, but didn't have to take anything apart to get to the wires, just un-plugged the connector stripped back a little insulation, soldered the wires, and wrapped the wires with some tape.

If you want to swap it over it would be real easy to do because once you pop off the console you will see the exposed wires and won't have to dig around searching for them.
