My FIL has the Ford-branded version and he's destroyed the seal on his, from never closing the tailgate first. But then again, he's like a bull in a china shop with pretty much everything. His truck has fewer miles than my primary truck and it looks like it's been threw a dozen hailstorms, with raccoons living in the cab.
thanks for that info.. i had no idea.. there was such a cluster**** when i bought my truck (valet crashed it during delivery .. sales person got fired) so much going on i never had a chance to go over the truck or talk to anyone bout the do's and don'ts with the cover or even the truck

Thanks for the info everyone, really appreciated. Doesn't seem to be a lot of info out there on the Gator, but there are a lot of satisfied customers with a Bak

I called Bafflip and found out that they discontinued that model, but the rep gave me the part number and said that I may be able to find a dealer that still had one in stock. Sure enough, I finally found a dealer in Ohio that had one left. So when I was passing through, I stopped and picked it up. The very first thing I noticed, was how much lighter it was. At first I was apprehensive that it may not be as robust as my first one, but I've had it on for over six months now and it's been great. I know some people have had complaints of them leaking or bowing, but mine's been perfect.

So did you get a VP then? That’s the one I had planned on getting all along. Now I’m back to thinking about getting a tonneau and I don’t see the VP’s on the website (as fitting my 2011 5.5ft box anyway). Are those still available or is there one that’s considered a replacement for them?

Yes, that's what they called them... I couldn't remember the specific model designation. When I called Bakflip, back in July, about one for my '18, the rep said they had quit making them and that they were releasing something similar by the end of the year, which would have been last month. But I haven't checked back with them, because I found one in stock at a dealer in Ohio.

i was checking things out last night and I like the MX4 but it’s quite a bit more than what I remember the VP going for. I guess I should call Bak to find out which one they released to be like the VP.

Best part of this last one I bought... only paid $350 for it. And it was brand new, still in the factory box. The guy had been sitting on it awhile and was moving to a new shop. He was cleaning out a bunch of inventory, but this was the only Bakflip.

I have a Gator Evo bi-fold. I’m completely satisfied. I had to adjust and lube the latches when new but since then it’s been perfect.
