Default Graduation! Now I need advice

okay guys I had the official ceremony and I'm completely done with high school now. One thing my parents did for me was give me the ultimate offroading book for the 4x4 drivers in AZ and $250 to spend on a gps. I need one the will work in my truck most of the time but also can be removed and walked around with. I need to be able to input coordinates and have topographical information on the device itself. Is there anything out there that someone on here has that they would recommend? if so what model? I'm okay with going a little higher in price because then I can just throw in a little cash. Suggestion? Pictures too please!

Honestly a cell phone is your best bet. Either a droid or an iPhone. There are so many advanced apps now that its ridiculous what u can do with em. Just make sure u buy a car charger cause usin gps on ur phone will drain the battery. The navigation that came with my droid is the most accurate gps ive ever used.

I was looking at GPS's for my motorcycle about 6 months ago. I did my research on amazon.com. For your GPS, I researched by going to amazon.com also and searching "GPS" and then searching for Avg. Customer Review and found this :
Amazon Amazon

Just look at a few GPS's on amazon, pick out ones you like, and do a more in depth research to narrow your favorites down to one!

I'm sorry I don't have better info, but that is just how I do my initial research!

You're incorrect about droids. I have an mgrs app on my phone which will give you a 10 digit grid of any location which is within one meter of a given point. It works quite well and I've tested it with known points and with other gps units. The only difference is instead of spending 200 dollars on a seperate piece of equipment, I spent 5 dollars on an app.

I don't have a smart phone nor do i anticipate getting one. a gps is 200 now and only 200 unless i need more maps
a droid is 200 plus 5 for the app plus a monthly subscription.
I need a phone for calling and texting. and even then I don't do much of that. all I need is a reliable gps that I can use for plugging in coordinates while off roading.

I know this isnt what you want to hear. But a smart phone is the way to go. I pay 30 a month for my internet and its well worth it. Its saved me money, settled countless arguments, entertained me in the middle of nowhere and such. Its worth every penny, and if you wait til ur due for an upgrade you can get a phone pretty cheap, paid $25 for my $350 droid. I am hoping to switch to iphone soon. But jailbreak it and you can get almost any app for free. And i have been saved by my navi app on my phone, because not only can i see where theres a trail, i can switch to picture mode and tell what it looks like up ahead, if i can fit, if it dead ends, etc.

as helpful as that is. you are correct, its not what I wanted to hear. For arguments sake lets say that I have an extreme case of ADD and ADHD and having any phone capable of more than just making calls would get me into too much trouble. And if that doesn't work lets make up an imaginary world where "smart" phones don't exist and only GPSs work for my needs. does ANYONE have a recommendation for that?
