Question AutoMeter Trans. Temp Install

I go off-roading a lot & found I'd like to install a AutoMeter Z-series trans temp gauge on my E4OD. Is there a test port on the trans like a 4R100 on a Super Duty where I can install the sender? Or can someone that has one tell me where I can hook it up?

you have a few options. As to whether or not the E40D pan has a place to install a sensor, i honestly don't know. My stock 4R70W does not, so i put a "T" fitting in one of the tranny cooler lines with a threaded coupler so i could install the sensor. Not as accurate as being in the pan, but i didn't want to modify my stock (and at the time, brand new) tranny pan.

The best option is a new product i just dicovered from a company called MAG-HYTEC. They make aftermarket diff covers and tranny pans, and they recently started making pans for the 4R70W, the E40D, 4R100 and the 4R75E for our beloved F150's. They hold an extra 4 quarts of fluid, have a drain plug, and already have a location to install a temp sensor. From what i've seen they cost about 275 and come with a new filter. I'm seriously considering one of these and wish i would have discovered them sooner.

Thanks a lot, Chad! I've checked into one after I read your post, but it seems I'll need to save up some dough before I go into it. Thank you!
